Et olen oma isa filminegativi digitaliseerinud (fotoaparaadi vahendusel), ei tohiks olla arusaamatusi foto pildistamise aasta ega autorluse kohta, kuna olen päranduseks saanud Aleksander Kaasiku (minu isa) filminegativi nii kasutamise ja käsutamise õiguse. Ja sellest lähtuvalt, on suvekohviku pildistamise aeg 1940 aasta.Hoone lammutati kuskil 1947-1948, mis antud juhul pole ka oluline märkida jne.Ma ei saa aru,hr Kruusimägi, mis probleem selle digipildiga õieti on.Palun lähemalt selgitust

Oled eespool nõustunud, et ühe pildiga kategooriaid pole tarvis ette näha. Ma olen ka nõus. Aga milleks siis hulk kategooriaid nagu see? Teiseks, on omajagu pilte, kus loale pole viidatud, näiteks mitu aastat tagasi üles laaditud piirivalve pildid. Kas lubadele viitamine on plaanis? Pikne 14:10, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Nende TÜ piltide juures on kohati neid eraldi kategooriasse pandud eeldusega, et pilte lisandub veel. Samuti on olnud paiguti lihtsam pildi lisamisel samanimeline kategooria tekitada ja pärast vaadata, et mis selle kategooriaga edasi teha annab. Üldiselt peaks neid aga üsna vähe olema (ehk u 30 tk). Kui need sulle ikka väga vastu hakkavad, siis tee ümber.

@MinuHiiumaa: . Tegelikult on see paraku ikka natuke maastikufotode konkurss küll. Kui mingi liik leidud tõesti vaid paaris kohas Eestis (nt saaremaa robirohi), siis selle puhul võib ju erandi teha, aga muidu nimetatu ikka suurt antud konkursile ei sobi. Kui näiteks HELP pildikogumisele sobib kõik loodusega seotu, siis siin oodatakse otseselt nimekirja kantud kaitseobjektidega seotud fotosid. Iseäranis just maastikufotosid, mis antud objekti võimalikult iseloomulikust küljest kirjeldavad.

Täpsemalt küll ei praakunud ma välja "osasid pilte", vaid ühe kolmest. Ja ega need ülejäänud kaks ka paraku konkursi ootustega väga kokku ei käi.

Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer

Please excuse me spamming you. As a regular on Feature Picture Candidatess you will recognise User:The Photographer, who has 86 Featured Pictures. His contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. He has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and lives in a poor country where photographic equipment is expensive. The Photographer has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

It is a perfectly ordinary procedure when images have been previously posted online to request that the uploader establish his identity via OTRS. That user wrote me an e-mail, that he doesn't understand what weird templates were added next to the images he uploaded. So it's not just my interpretation. This "ordinary procedure" is frightening to new users and when I'm organizing a picture collecting camping, then this is absolutely the last thing I want to see happening to the new users. Some holiday joy

Since 1959, it is a Swedish tradition to (at 3 pm) watch Donald Duck and other Disney cartoons on TV. The most appreciated part is about Donald as bird photographer in Clown of the Jungle. Yeah, I wondered if I'd need to explain that. I've gotten bunch of high quality tif-files from Tartu Art Museum (category) and I'd like to keep them separate from their altered versions. So I plan to give the modifications necessary categories and exposure, but keep the museum images as an archive versions. Categorizing those tif-versions, when there are already more suitable versions available, would not be a good idea in my opinion (like adding tif-files to articles should better be avoided, but it's hard to avoid that from happening, when those images would start to roam freely in Commons and not stay in their designate location). + it could really mess up the statistics. Hm, you don't know a priori which files in Commons will be useful or not. Sure, for Wikipedia articles, it is better to use .jpg files. But for someone who would want to print a book abou Ella Mätik, the tif files will be very precious. So, these files should have the same visibility. We can also create one category per artwork, and link these categories to wikidata items. About the statistics, it is a tool issue : you should be able to add a filter that excludes tif :) Léna (talk) 08:57, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

I would say the images are pretty well linked at a moment and there should be no reason for a person not to notice the tif-versions.

The categories themselves are somewhat in disarray as always. Some artists have lot of very bad-quality stuff in them. So it's an attempt to keep them more tidy.

@Emha: If you take a look into those image pages, then you may notice that nearly all of them have OTRS tags with permissions. As I'm in a middle of uploading the last set of images I got from him, then of-course I haven't yet sent anything to OTRS about that last few images, as I'm yet working on getting the images up first. Try finding them online and you may understand, that I got images directly from the author, to whom I happen to have a long-standing cooperation of that kind of image donations. Well Kruusamägi , I found a file from 14. Mar 2017 without a permission and did a check in the named category and found a few without permission. That was the reason for asking you. I don't think that it's neccesary to be unfriedly as I feel you are answering to me. Why don't you use {{OTRS pending}} which is made exactly for cases like these? Everything is smooth with my alma mater. The main things we need to "decide" are the prizes. Most of the websites of 2015 are in languages I don't speak. In Estonia, I have usually had some Nikon equipment for the winner (i.e. "Estonian science photographer of the year"). Like in 2011 I got this, but it has varied a lot on how much they have been ready to support this competition.

Then there has been yearly subscriptions of various magazines (Eesti Loodus, Horisont, Akadeemia, Imeline Teadus) as special prizes. I would consider this useful already from the perspective of promotion of this event.

I've also asked and gotten sponsorship from one Estonian mapmaker Regio (me giving out that prize in 2015) and from University of Tartu Press (books, obviously).

Some years I also asked sponsorship from student councils of major Estonian universities (for special prizes to the best university student from that university).

Fast update, I have probably another juror from South Korea (an experienced post doc, not a P.I.) and I discussed in the meta talk of User:Doc James about a support from the med group. If we can add "medical images" as a category we can get better support and at least some good international jurors. We can call the category "biology and medicine" to be more generic. The med group is very active around the world, as far as I remember. So far I have also enough chemists, I have another Italian professor that we can move to the international jury if necessary. As there are already 5 distinct categories, then I'm not overly enthusiastic with adding anything extra. It would be like opening the Pandora's box. Pathology related and other similar images can be added under microscopy category, images about medical scientists would be greatly anticipated under the category 'people in science', sets of medical images suit well under the set category and all of the rest will fit fine into general category. And all of the local competitions can add random number of additional special prizes in whatever topics.

But getting some medical people into it would be really great. Maybe some of them would also be interested to organize the local competition in their homeland? And as mentioned, local competition do have right to add additional categories. And we have also had some medicine-related images in the past, so it is reasonable to assume there would be some of them in 2017 as well.

Yes, they can do that, they can use existing categories. In my experience so far, it is however more difficult to find some type of jurors with these five categories, for example a PI in the field of ecology and energy optimization was not convinced few weeks ago. I hope that from the experience of national competitions we can gather enough expertise. Yeah, I saw it. I haven't yet gotten so far to write an answer. Short reply: the more jurors there would be, the better (some may fall away at some point + there should a additional jury to select winners from countries where there is no jury). UK chapter is now also thinking about organizing the local competition, but the thing they are most worried about is the part of setting together local jury. Details about the competition

Hi, if you saw my email I have found the 3rd. 4th and 5th solid candidate for the main international jury.

Now, I stop looking for candidates (maybe I'll receive some late reply, but I am not sending more mails or messages).

I'd like to know if the jury tool we are going to use is very similar, as I expect, to the tool used for WLM. If so, that means I should ask my contact to create a Wikimedia account, right?

Let me know, so I can inform them with calm before November. Roger... but let me understand this passage: Do I have to ask the WMF people to prepare jury tool for "my" national jury? because they start before January, right? In any case I know the WLM tool, it is perfect for the national juries with no subdomains and I guess if you have the right common categories for those subdomains (e.g. "Photo Competition 2017 - People in Science"), it can be used too. Do you want or need me to put you directly in contact with those developers? I have to find some mails from the past, it might take some minutes.

Such tool requires also a "sysop", someone that inform people that a step is going to start and allow it to start, and set the date and hours deadline of the different voting steps (yes/no, 1 to 5, final ranking), closing them, set the threshold of the different steps (the first n pictures, all pictures with average vote at least 3/5) if I remember correctly.

There are several tools (example) and we'll need to test them at some point. In the past there have been multiple problems with jury tools and so I'm not sure on what exactly should we use (I haven't organized WLM for some time, so I don't know to current state of jury tools).

There will be a country based division like last time and category based subdivisions so it is pretty easy to sort the stuff. But as long as the number of images in below 500 there may not even be a need to use the jury tool.

And when to use the jury tool, it might be useful to at first let someone sort out the images that have no chance of winning. Kruusamägi (talk) 16:06, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

"sort out the images that have no chance of winning" is the first phase of the WLM Jury tool. I have used and it's perfect for that. In any case I prefer to offer the jurors a simple tool even for 500 images. We used last year for the images for Tuscany of WLM and they were 400, it was quite appropriate. Squared logo for WSC

Hi! I write here because I have to cite this in future discussion, probably. I am trying to rationalize the main page infobox for the future. Long story short, maybe a squared logo for WSC of the same size of WLM and WLE could help. I was thinking to rotate the helix of 45 degrees, make it shorter. I'd just leave that "week" there. Outdated translation is a lot worse and the main reason why I scrapped the idea of having WSC main landing page in Commons.

the landing page on commons was necessary because this is a mutllingual platform, in the end. It started as an indexing page, but in the end an external website in English cannot fulfill all the needs. WLM has both, so we have to accept this scenario.

End of promotion campaign

Look, since I am here (and yahoo is stucked, damned Chinese internet), few information. We are at -6 days so the information campaign basically ends.

I have no idea if they will help us with the sitenotice, I hope they will, we will focus on Africa later, which is doing already quite good IMHO. I have informed few Africans here and there but mostly by chance, I will check few more messages in talk with South African and ar-N users probably later. Starting from few days ago I have however informed one by one many people. Of course they could have been thousands, but I reduced to mostly people from few target countries (zero uploads, terrible uploads), with a limited English knowledge (not all of them , but if they can survive here I said fair enough). users with email or active, or in general competent users with good images hoping to get some decent finalists in certain areas. Like I did with part of the competitors of 2015 in Europe I stop now, there is no point in informing someone too late. In 2019 if there is no improvement on the sitenotice front, we will do like WLM or WLE and start in advance. But I mostly wanted the competition to be useful so I also focused on dormient users that never took part in the previous years. in 2019 however we will have a good starting world base and we can use that directly, we'll see.

I don't expect miracles so late, a key difference will probably come from the email campaign, which showed good output in Indonesia and Africa but not in China. let's cross the finger, although i would have avoided to go this way, but let's take the good out of the situation. if we can get at least a dozens of contacts ready for 2019 too, that's good!--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:29, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
