Levant battle map - Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon map

[edit]

Hi, there. I'm BlueHypercane761. Thanks for helping to keep the Levant (3 country) battle map updated this past year. I really appreciate the help. There are a few things I would like to advise you to do, though:

1.) For all future updates, please first download a copy of the latest uploaded revision (the one I just uploaded today), before using that image file to perform any pasting or updating work. Using the current image version of the map as a template will keep the map's quality from deteriorating.

2.) Also make sure to sure the file as a .png, otherwise the color will begin to fade and change shades - It's happened to me before.

If you're having trouble with adding cities or battle sites to the map, you can copy a small snapshot directly from the source module itself (by using PicPick or some other image editor), or if the areas in question aren't crucial, you can always wait around for me to add them, especially if they're really difficult to manipulate. (Another trick is to copy off a city or checkpoint icon from another site on the map, if there is an exact match in size and color.) Also, if you haven't done this already, select the background color for which ever side you plan to edit (Syrian gov., rebels, ISIL, etc.), from the current image, before drawing on the map file. This will also keep the map colors consistent. Anyway, thanks for the great work, and enjoy your time here as an editor. BlueHypercane761 (talk) 06:55, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What's the current status of Akashat?

[edit]

The Syrian, Iraqi, and Lebanese insurgencies file shows that it is currently under Iraqi control, yet isis.liveuamap.com and File:SyrianDesert2.svg both show it under ISIS control. Would you mind to update the map accordingly? -Salem Leo --98.183.197.74 17:09, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Akashat is under Iraqi government control. Here are the sources: https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/iraqi-army-sweeps-isis-towns-syrian-border/ http://www.iraqinews.com/iraq-war/security-forces-control-akashat-area-cut-off-isis-supply-toward-qaim/ Please only use primary sources (such as news articles) when updating anything, because secondary sources (such as other maps) are often severely outdated, regardless of whether those secondary sources were last modified the present day or not. The Wikipedia map is correct, as it relies only off of primary sources and is constantly being updated as more news comes in. Remember though, the Wikipedia map is a work in progress. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lightanddark1775 (talk • contribs) 22:00, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Maadan

[edit]

There seems to be a problem with the Syrian, Iraqi, and Lebanese insurgencies template. Maadan is shown as in the Raqqa governorate in the template, whereas in ISIS live maps and Syrian Civil War map, it is shown as in Deir Ezzor governorate. Which would you say is more accurate? --Salem.leo.1 (talk) 15:36, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re. my arrognat changes summary & Kifri

[edit]

I don't know why I put "mostly wrong", didn't really look at the changes you made fully. I redid most of the revision, but just wanted to apologies for that moment of arrogance. It's nice to see impartial contributors like yourself.

The status of Kifri is still unclear I think, there are a few reports it's now under Iraqi control, but this would be the first instance of the federal forces entering the official KRG territory controlled by PUK Peshmerga. Though I realise it is legally disputed territory.

No worries, Rob. Thank you for your contributions. The area is constantly changing around there as to who controls what, so these map editions will only be accurate for a day, it seems. - Lightanddark1775 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lightanddark1775 (talk • contribs) 15:26, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No Tarifaoa border crossing

[edit]

Hello Lightanddark, you recently updated the Iraqi civil war map after Rawa's capture and showed an area near an apparent Tarifaoa border crossing along with Nineveh-Anbar provincial border under ISIL control. This border crossing, also shown under ISIL control, actually I can't find any reliable source for its existence. I tried looking everywhere. As I couldn't I had to remove it from the detailed map module. I would request you to try to remove it from the map.

However, ISIS still has a presence in western desert of Iraq. According, to Iraqi officials these areas are not inhabited (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/iraqi-forces-retake-last-town-under-isis-control/2017/11/17/f78af80a-cb84-11e7-8321-481fd63f174d_story.html?utm_term=.780e4e7c2537). Regardless even if wrong, it is clear this desert area does not seem to have any significant settlement anyway. There doesn't seem to be anything really much to control. I think it would be better if a multiple zebra crossing-like lines across the western desert area on the map are drawn to show it containing ISIL presence.
