The season began at Motorland Aragón on 25 April and finished on 18 October at Circuito de Jerez. The series formed part of the World Series by Renault meetings at seven double header events, with an additional double header event at the Red Bull Ring and a single race at Monaco, in support of the Monaco Grand Prix. Regerend kampioen Carlos Sainz jr. is overgestapt naar het Formule 1-team Toro Rosso en verdedigt zijn titel niet. Oliver Rowland werd tijdens het voorlaatste weekend op het Circuit Bugatti gekroond tot de laatste kampioen van de Formule Renault 3.5 Series, aangezien de Franse autofabrikant na afloop van het seizoen haar steun aan het kampioenschap opzegde.
