- Els llibres de les fades són una col·lecció de contes populars, recollits per Andrew Lang, de gran influència al món anglosaxó. A diferència d'altres recopilacions de folklore del segle xix, l'edició va ser pensada directament per al públic infantil. Cada volum de la col·lecció rep el nom d'un color i reuneix contes de fades de diferents països. Els llibres inclouen quatre contes catalans, són Aigua de vida, El lleó ferit, i . - The Langs' Fairy Books are a series of 25 collections of true and fictional stories for children published between 1889 and 1913 by Andrew Lang and his wife, Leonora Blanche Alleyne. The best known books of the series are the 12 collections of fairy tales also known as Andrew Lang's "Coloured" Fairy Books or Andrew Lang's Fairy Books of Many Colors. In all, the volumes feature 798 stories, besides the 153 poems in The Blue Poetry Book. Leonora Blanche Alleyne (1851–1933) was an English author, editor, and translator. Known to her family and friends as Nora, she assumed editorial control of the series in the 1890s, while her husband, Andrew Lang (1844–1912), a Scots poet, novelist, and literary critic, edited the series and wrote prefaces for its entire run. According to Anita Silvey, "The irony of Lang's life and work is that although he wrote for a profession—literary criticism; fiction; poems; books and articles on anthropology, mythology, history, and travel ... he is best recognized for the works he did not write." The authorship and translation of the Coloured Fairy Books is often and incorrectly attributed to Lang's husband alone. Nora is not named on the front cover or spines of any of the Coloured Fairy Books, which all tout Andrew as their editor. However, as Andrew acknowledges in a preface to The Lilac Fairy Book (1910), "The fairy books have been almost wholly the work of Mrs. Lang, who has translated and adapted them from the French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Catalan, and other languages." Although Andrew is often credited with selecting the stories in the Fairy Books, most of the work was done by Nora. She and a team of other writers, who were mostly women and included May Kendall and Violet Hunt, translated these into English and adapted them to suit Victorian and Edwardian notions of propriety. Nora's collaboration is first credited in The Green Fairy Book, the third in the series, and from this point on she writes most of the retellings, usually credited as "Mrs. Lang". Further volumes of stories published from 1908 to 1912 are credited as written by "Mrs. Lang", such as The Red Book of Heroes (1909) and The Book The 12 Coloured Fairy Books were illustrated by Henry Justice Ford, with credit for the first two volumes shared by G. P. Jacomb-Hood and Lancelot Speed, respectively. A. Wallis Mills also contributed some illustrations. (en)
- Les Fairy Books d'Andrew Lang sont une série de douze recueils de contes de fées publiés dans différentes couleurs, entre 1889 et 1910. Chaque volume se distingue par sa propre couleur. En tout, 437 contes provenant d'un large éventail de cultures et de pays sont présentés. Andrew Lang, poète, romancier et critique littéraire écossais, n'a pas recueilli les histoires lui-même à partir de sources primaires orales : il les a compilées à partir d'une grande variété de sources (parfois indiquées avec plus ou moins de précision, parfois sans aucune indication d'origine), ce qui rendit ses collections immensément influentes. Lang a fait traduire un grand nombre de contes pour la première fois en anglais. Comme il l'a reconnu dans les préfaces, bien que Lang ait effectué lui-même la plupart des sélections, sa femme et d'autres traducteurs (et surtout traductrices) ont réalisé une grande partie des versions en anglais. Les livres ont été principalement illustrés par Henry J. Ford. Lancelot Speed et G.P. Jacomb-Hood ont également fourni certaines illustrations. Dans ses préfaces successives, il dit régulièrement avoir été amené à publier un nouveau recueil à la demande du public. Il a par ailleurs publié de nombreux autres recueils de contes, récits, poèmes, etc. en dehors de cette série. Les Fairy Books ont été réédités par Dover Publications Inc. à partir de 1965. - Livros das fadas de Lang (também conhecido como Livros coloridos das fadas de Lang ) é uma coleção de doze livros de contos de fadas, publicados entre 1889 e 1910. Cada volume é diferenciado por uma cor específica. São apresentados em seu total 437 contos de diversos países e culturas. Andrew Lang (1844–1912) foi um poeta, novelista, e critico literário escocês. Apesar de não coletar as histórias diretamente das fontes primárias orais apenas ele e Madame d'Aulnoy reuniram uma variedade tão grande de fontes. Suas coletâneas foram imensamente influentes. Lang foi em muitos casos o primeiro tradutor de muitos contos para a língua inglesa. Como reconheceu nos prefácios, embora fizesse a maioria das seleções, sua esposa e outros tradutores fizeram uma grande parte das traduções e releituras das histórias. De acordo com Anita Silvey, "A ironia da vida de Lang é que apesar de ser um escritor profissional — crítico literário, poeta e romancista, além de escrever artigos de antropologia, mitologia, história e guias de viagem... seu trabalho mais conhecido não foi escrito por ele."
