Ia dinobatkan sebagai gubernur perempuan pertama dalam sejarah perpolitikan Indonesia. Meski demikian, masa jabatannya harus terhenti setelah terlibat dalam . Pelantikan yang dilakukan oleh Menteri Dalam Negeri Muhammad Ma'ruf di Gedung DPRD Provinsi Banten dengan dihadiri sekitar 2700 undangan. Selain Gubernur DKI Jakarta Sutiyoso, hadir juga Ketua DPR-RI Agung Laksono dan Gubernur Gorontalo Fadel Muhammad serta bupati/wali kota se-Provinsi Banten dan sejumlah tokoh nasional lain. Sidang paripurna mendapat pengamanan sedikitnya 2500 anggota kepolisian, Tentara Nasional Indonesia, Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja, serta petugas di sekitar Gedung DPRD dan sepanjang jalan menuju lokasi pelantikan. Sebelumnya, Ratu Atut terpilih sebagai wagub berpasangan dengan Djoko Munandar pada 11 Januari 2002. Ketika Djoko Munandar dicopot dari jabatannya karena terkait kasus korupsi, ia ditunjuk sebagai Pelaksana Tugas Gubernur Banten. Ia adalah wanita pertama yang menjabat sebagai gubernur sebuah Provinsi di Indonesia. Pada 17 Desember 2013, Gubernur Banten Ratu Atut Chosiyah ditetapkan sebagai tersangka oleh KPK dalam pengadaan alat kesehatan di Banten. Ia resmi dinonaktifkan oleh Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada tanggal 13 Mei 2014 terkait kasus suap pilkada di MK. (in)
- Ratu Atut Chosiyah (born 16 May 1962) is a former governor of the province of Banten, Indonesia. She was suspended from office in 2014 because of a corruption case. She held office for several terms. Before her election as governor in 2006, she was the deputy governor under Djoko Munandar starting from 11 January 2002. Djoko was involved in a corruption case and was suspended from office in October 2005. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed Ratu Atut as the acting governor to take over Djoko's administrative duties and she later became governor. She thus became the first female governor in Indonesia. In May 2014, she was formally charged by the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission for alleged corruption. In early September 2014, she was sentenced to a four-year term of imprisonment on the charges brought by the Commission against her. In September 2022, Ratu Atut was released on parole. (en)
