- L'scratch o scratching és una tècnica utilitzada pels discjòqueis de hip hop i música electrònica entre altres estils, que consisteix a moure un disc de vinil cap endavant i cap endarrere sobre el plat del tocadiscs per a crear un efecte semblant al de ratllar el disc i que, ben utilitzat, ajuda a construir ritmes i frases melòdiques. Alguns instruments de música electrònica incorporen un comandament giratori circular per a imitar aquest efecte. En la música hip hop s'utilitza per a donar velocitat, o per a trossos de cançó on un discjòquei diu una frase, i així s'hi dona intensitat i s'hi remarca el que diu. (ca)
- Χρησιμοποιώντας των όρο scratch (σκρατς) επικαλούμαστε μια τεχνική μουσικής παραγωγής (DJing) η οποία παραμορφώνει ένα συγκεκριμένο κομμάτι ήχου και δίνοντας του την ανάλογη ταχύτητα (pitch) κάθε φορά δημιουργείται μια νέα σύνθεση ήχων που ακολουθούν αρμονικά τον ρυθμό. - Unter Scratchen oder Scratching (vom Englischen „to scratch“ für „kratzen“) wird im Musikjargon die Erzeugung von Tönen durch rhythmisches Hin- und Herbewegen einer laufenden Schallplatte auf einem Plattenspieler bei aufgelegter Nadel verstanden. Dabei können die Töne mit dem Crossfader des Mischpultes rhythmisch ein- und ausgeblendet werden, um diese zu neuen Melodien zusammenzufügen. Die Schallplatte liegt dabei auf einer Slipmat, die es ermöglicht, die Schallplatte unabhängig vom Plattenteller zu drehen. Zumeist sind die verwendeten Plattenspieler darüber hinaus mit Tonabnehmern ausgestattet, die besonders robust und rillenstabil ausgelegt sind. - Le scratch (ou scratching) est un procédé consistant à modifier manuellement la vitesse de lecture d'un disque vinyle sous une tête de lecture de platine vinyle, alternativement en avant et en arrière, de façon à produire un effet spécial ; le son devient plus aigu lorsqu'il est accéléré et plus grave lorsqu'il est ralenti. En plus de cette manipulation du vinyle, une modification du volume (augmentation, réduction ou coupure) permet de donner un rythme à cette modulation. Theodore sviluppò la tecnica da Grandmaster Flash, che la descrive come "niente altro che il cue inverso che senti in cuffia maneggiando il vinile prima di farlo sentire al pubblico" (Toop, 1991). Anche Kool DJ Herc fu un'importante figura nel nascere dello scratching. La tecnica ha il proposito di accentuare il lavoro del DJ, creando un assortimento di suoni mediante la manipolazione ritmica di un vinile (oggi, con uno strumento come un CDJ, si può scratchare anche con un CD, anche se non si parla di scratching). Lo "scratchare", frutto della cultura Hip Hop è stato poi adottato anche in altre forme musicali. Nell'Hip Hop, lo scratching è ancora di grande importanza per determinare l'abilità di un DJ, e si tengono in tutto il mondo competizioni nelle quali DJ si danno battaglia mostrando il loro virtuosismo nello scratch. Embora o scratch seja associado com o hip hop, onde emergiu na metade dos anos 1970, a partir dos anos 1990 também foi usado em estilos de rap rock, rap metal e nu metal. Na cultura hip hop, o scratch é uma das medidas das habilidades de um DJ. DJs competem entre si em campeonatos do DMC e da IDA (International DJ Association, anteriormente conhecida como ITF (International Turntablist Federation).
