Thankyou

Just a little note to say thankyou for participating in my successful RFA candidacy, which passed with 96 supports, 0 opposes, and 1 neutral. I am pleasantly taken aback by the amount of support for me to contribute in an administrative role and look forward to demonstrating that such faith is well placed. Help with Will Holt

Hello,

I found the death date and source for the playwright Will Holt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Holt but I can't figure out how to change the "Living Persons" status on his Talk Page. I think there used to be an "Edit This Section" somewhere, but I can't seem to locate it. Help!

Thanks --- Michael David (talk) 16:44, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you can edit the talkpage by clicking the "edit this page" button at the top, to the right of the "format" button. (No "edit this section" because there's not much on the talkpage & no sections). You'll see {{WPBiography|class=Stub|priority=|a&e-work-group=yes|living=yes|listas=Holt, Will}}. Remove the bit that says |living=yes. That should do it. You'll also need to remove Category:Living people from the bottom of the article page, and add Category:1929 births and Category:1989 deaths. Hope this helps, --BelovedFreak 18:11, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response. However, I may be dense (which is entirely possible :-)) but on the Talkpage for Will Holt (if fact any Talkpage I go to) there is no "Edit This Page" at the top. All that's at the top of the page is Article / Discussion / New Section / History / Move / Watch (or Unwatch). I think there used to be an "Edit This Page" in the past, but it's not there now. So I don't know what's going on. --- Michael David (talk) 21:05, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... I can't imagine why this is. Have you changed your preferences at all? Although, I can't see anything in my preferences that would have that effect. I suggest you post a message at the help desk. Queries there usually get a quick response and someone there may have more technical know-how than me. In the meantime, I'll edit the article and talkpage for you.--BelovedFreak 21:13, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, again. I will take you advice and get some input from the Help Desk. -- Michael David (talk) 21:31, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Crow

109? I was looking online for the book "The Crow: The Movie", but I couldn't find it. I found "The Crow: City of Angels - Making the Film" by the same authors. Anyway, you can still do that without reverting it back. It's the same way I did it for Jason Voorhees#References. The first instances of the book I cited the full source (as I did in my edit on that page), and then every instance after that I cited it the way that you originally cited it.

I assume you are going to be fixing up the pages...I was going to do that as well, as I recently picked up the Collector Series of the film with all the production info. Do you already have that as well?  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 12:06, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd love to work with you on it. When I get a chance I'll check out the stuff on the DVD. I added some detail to the plot section (not a usual thing for me..lol), as there were some questions regarding how characters got from one place to another. I'll check it over again later as I mostly tweaked the last half of it. It's certainly better than the way it was before you trimmed it.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 12:29, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My suggestion with commentary, pull everything they say (write it all down) and then we can see what's relevant afterward. Collaboration isn't hard, we just have to make sure we don't step all over each other's toes while editing. If you're doing that commentary, then I can cross that off this DVD set. Let me list the specs on mine so we can see if we have any other overlapping bonus features.
  • Behind the scenes featurette
  • Commentary by Most and Shirley
  • Profile of James O'Barr
  • Extended scenes
  • Deleted Footage montage (it doesn't see if there are commentaries with the extended scenes or deleted footage)
  • Original poster concepts
  • Production design stills
  • Storyboard
DVD ROM
  • Trivia Game
  • Enhanced Playback
  • Screenplay viewer
  • Weblinks
Doesn't actually appear to be as much as I thought it was. I'll have to go digging through my university resources to see if I can find more stuff on the film.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 12:44, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess Collector's Series doesn't amount to much..lol. I'll check for some academic sources, and hopefully I'll find some stuff for the production section as well.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 13:03, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Welcome (Objix)

Thank you for the welcome, and your comments on my user talk page and Talk:But I'm a Cheerleader. I'll definitely send a query to the image poster whenever I get back to that page. Thanks especially for the links to the policies and help info. I only created an account recently after engaging in an edit/revert war to stop vandalism of a page I only went to on a whim, but felt honor bound to defend. I would have loved to have had the information on reporting vandalism then. (But it all worked out in the end). I don't plan on doing a lot of editing, but it's nice to have all of this information readily available. --Objix (talk) 04:34, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, sorry for the delay in answering, I'm in the middle of moving house, so not on as much as I'd like to be. I'd be happy to adopt you or help you in any way I can. Is there anything in particular that you're looking for help with? --BelovedFreak 20:13, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, I appreciate the Welcome info you placed on my user page. I will read through that and by the time I am ready to ask more specific questions it may also be better timing for you. As New Zealand's time zone is very different to most web users I am used to that being part of delays - no problem. I have no experience writing code but am picking it up as I go along. Would it be best for me to write my questions on my user page? I am so grateful for any help, and there is no hurry. Thanks again --Januarian (talk) 06:41, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Norm Drew, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page.

If you can fix this redirect to point to an existing Wikipedia page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you also fix the redirect. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. WP:FILMS Questionnaire

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Sock Puppet on 12th Duke of Devonshire page

Hi, I saw that you dealt with a few sock puppets which appeared on the 12th Duke of Devonshire's page last year. Unfortunately, they seem to have returned, again fiddling with the number of children he has. I am a mere rookie in the world of combating abuse of Wikipedia, so I was wondering if you might lend me a hand: even if it's just to point me in the direction of how to create a Sock Puppet page? Hi. Did you have a particular reason for replacing my {{primarysources}} tag with "BLPunreferenced"? I find "primarysources" (which is badly named, should really be "need-more-than-primary-sources") useful because with plain "unref" they tend to add their own website, Myspace etc. and think that's enough. The primarysources template includes the useful message: "Primary sources or sources affiliated with the subject are generally not sufficient for a Wikipedia article." I was thinking of taking this one to AfD, because "owns some restaurants and will be a contestant on a reality show" didn't sound like notability, but a quick look suggests that refs may be available. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:24, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry, didn't mean to step on your toes as such. I added the BLPunreferenced tag just because I think it's important to draw attention to the WP:BLP policy. The primary sources tag, I would usually use for when an article is relying on a primary source. In this case there was none. I wouldn't have bothered removing it however, but after I had added a couple of tags, I just thought it looked a but too cluttered, which I know can be a bit offputting to new editors. So, It's not a case of "my tag's better than yours" or anything! Just a different approach I guess. --BelovedFreak 19:37, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, and no offence taken - as I said, I find that "unref" or "BLPunref" tends to produce the subject's own website and Myspace, and then adding "primarysources" later seems a bit like nagging. As you say, different approaches. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 19:42, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising

Hey I'm new here sorry if Im doing this wrong, but can people use their personal page to advetise like this guy is doing? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:William_L._Palminteri —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.231.207.197 (talkcontribs) 15:46, 22 September 2009

It looks like that userpage has been deleted now. Editors are not really encouraged to advertise themselves or their companies (see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:User page). There is some leeway for editors who contribute to the encyclopaedia to write about themselves on their userpage. It looks as though that particular page was created as an article and deleted because a lack of notability and references. It is acceptable for editors to work on versions of deleted articles in their userspace to try and get them up to the standard required. In this case, the editor in question has not been contributing for over a year and there is no need for them to have a page advertising themselves.--BelovedFreak 19:56, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
