"For example, he was unable to attend the film's premiere in Atlanta, Georgia because no hotel in the city would give him a room for the night. In some way, this was rectified in 1948, when Baskett was given an honorary Academy Award for his performance as Uncle Remus."

I think this line understates the struggles which many black actors were forced to constantly endure. To say that his being given an Award in any way rectified the discrimination, is almost as if to imply that racism can be washed over by favors. I suggest a rewording or rephrasing. User:Majik43 

I made a change to the day he died. It was July 9th, not September, according to the Los Angeles Times acticle dated July 10th, 1948. Oscarmadison
