[edit]"For example, he was unable to attend the film's premiere in Atlanta, Georgia because no hotel in the city would give him a room for the night. In some way, this was rectified in 1948, when Baskett was given an honorary Academy Award for his performance as Uncle Remus."
I think this line understates the struggles which many black actors were forced to constantly endure. To say that his being given an Award in any way rectified the discrimination, is almost as if to imply that racism can be washed over by favors. I suggest a rewording or rephrasing. User:Majik43
Not only that, but even his Oscar win isn't really that significant when you consider it was a non-competitive win. It's not like Hattie McDaniel who won the Best Supporting Actress award, legitimately beating out three white nominees. I think the Academy giving Baskett an honorary Oscar was done so that he could not be eligible for a Best Actor nod, heaven forbid a black man may take home the top prize. 24.189.90.68 (talk) 01:48, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
I made a change to the day he died. It was July 9th, not September, according to the Los Angeles Times acticle dated July 10th, 1948. Oscarmadison

Can we change the main picture
[edit]From reading this article, I was surprised to learn that James Baskett was only 44 when he died and 42 when he starred in Song of South. In respect for the actor, shouldn't his main picture be a picture of how he looked in real life such as this: https://www.songofthesouth.net/movie/biographies/galleryimages/baskett-oscar5.jpg
Song of the South is controversial because of its portrayal of slave life and racist stereotypes. Out of respect for the actor, would it be ok to update the main picture so that it shows how he looked in real life? I think it is appropriate to show a picture from the Song of South at a different location in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.167.234.59 (talk) 08:27, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
