Alton is a small rural community in south Taranaki, in the western North Island of New Zealand. It is located between the towns of Hāwera and Patea.

  • Plans for extensions to both the Alton Dairy Factory and the Alton Cheese Factory (dated 1918) are housed at "Puke Ariki". Archived from the original on 20 June 2008. in New Plymouth. See "Alton Dairy Company (ARC2003-1092)". Archived from the original on 14 October 2008. Retrieved 29 January 2008. This dairy company began production in 1909, and closed upon merging with Kiwi Co-operative Dairies (in Hāwera) in 1984.
  • Alton lost its post office when 580 others closed, or were reduced, on 5 February 1988.[1]
