Category:Airliner shootdown incidents involving combat aircraft

This category lists all confirmed incidents in which civilian airliners were shot down air-to-air, typically (but not always) by fighter aircraft. Incidents are listed regardless of whether navigational error by the airline pilots may have been a factor; whether the combat aircraft and the airliner's home countries were at war; or whether the intent of the shootdown is subject to debate (i.e., factors such as alleged misidentification of the target or incompetence by air defense commanders are disregarded). This category excludes alleged but unconfirmed air-to-air shootdown incidents (e.g., Transair Sweden Flight 001), shootdowns that do not involve commercial airliners, and shootdowns that involve ground-to-air weapons or unknown means; such incidents should be placed in other, more appropriate categories.
