Category talk:Wikipedia bureaucrats open to recall
Category title
[edit]Ideally, all bureaucrats would be subject to recall, and we wouldn't need a category. Pending such a universal process, however, I support this category as a step in the right direction, and commend the bureaucrats who have already joined it. First things first: Category:Administrators open to recall was eventually recreated as Category:Wikipedia administrators open to recall, with the former page now a category redirect. Should this category likewise become Category:Wikipedia bureaucrats open to recall, in line with Category:Wikipedia bureaucrats? Tim Smith (talk) 05:13, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- I saw that after a bit, but didn't want to change it as some had already joined and it didn't seem like a big deal. Was there some important reason it was changed in CAT:AOR? Avruch T 00:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- The naming convention is that 'All administrative categories should have "Wikipedia" (without a colon) as part of the name'. For CAT:AOR, the idea was to make clear that it is a Wikipedia-specific category involving not administrators in general, but Wikipedia administrators in particular. The parent category was already Category:Wikipedia administrators. Similarly, this category is not for bureaucrats in general, but Wikipedia bureaucrats in particular. Category:Wikipedia bureaucrats already follows this convention. No one would have to rejoin; we could just recategorize them under the new name. Tim Smith (talk) 02:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Update: Following its initial creation at Category:Bureaucrats open to recall and a short stint at Category:Wikipedia Bureaucrats open to recall, the category is now at Category:Wikipedia bureaucrats open to recall. Tim Smith (talk) 17:03, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Needed?
[edit]I'm not sure I see the need for a separate process for bureaucrats. For one thing, this page doesn't clarify whether bureaucrats subject a successful recall request would lose their bureaucrat and sysop bits, or just the 'crat flag. If it's the former, then it doesn't make much sense, since we already have AOTR. –Juliancolton | Talk 00:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- I think the latter is the intention. The page says: "Bureaucrat recall affects the bureaucrat flag only, and not administrator or any other status." Tim Smith (talk) 16:38, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
