Hubert ohne Staller (Hubert und Staller before season 7) is a German TV series.[1]

Premise

[edit]
Wagen 3 from the series

The focus of the series is the small police station in the upper Bavarian Wolfratshausen. Its relatives regularly get involved in criminal cases (mostly homicides) in the city and its rural environment, which actually go far beyond their competences. Nevertheless, they manage to get to the trand of the perpetrators, whereby the creatively planned investigations that do not always fully comply with the regulations are often accompanied by mishaps. The district has only a single, older patrol car of the type Audi 80 B4 with the caller sign Wagen 3.

Characters

[edit]

Franz Hubert

[edit]

Police officer Franz Hubert (Christian Tramitz) is an experienced and cleverly thinking policeman, but who has developed a certain hardness towards himself and others due to various private and official disappointments - but behind this rough shell is also a soft core, which he shows very rarely and only to people he trusts. These include in particular his strip partner and friend Johannes Staller, but also his ex-wife, the coroner Anja Licht. Accordingly, Hubert has a very dry, mostly biting humor and a convincing quick-wittedness. In addition, he is reluctant to be persuaded into his work and usually also ignores the instructions of superiors. Nevertheless, he certainly observes the legal and formal limits during the investigative work and often shows himself as a skillful interrogator. Hubert has lived alone since the separation from Anja Licht and shows himself to occasionally occurring female approaches as dismissive. A kind of running gag of the series is that Hubert often and without further explanation has special talents that are related to the investigation, for example, he turns out to be an experienced violin player, rider or tennis player.

Reimund Girwidz

[edit]

The choleric police council Reimund Girwidz (Michael Brandner) was the superior of Hubert and Staller until season 7. At the beginning of the television series, he is transferred from Dortmund to the station. He is above all concerned about his reputation within the place, usually delegates tasks to his subordinates and is reluctant to take responsibility himself. Girwidz shows a very authoritarian leadership style, but at the same time considers himself a team-oriented and particularly competent supervisor - although he is regularly overwhelmed with the investigative work in the district. Without admitting it, he certainly recognizes the investigative successes of Hubert and Staller and is therefore willing to cover certain violations of the two; if only for the reason that he himself tries to avoid greater efforts in everyday work as much as possible. Girwidz always strives to establish the closest possible connection to the social and political elite of Wolfratshausen, in which he is only moderately successful. Again and again, he makes it clear that he would prefer a career as a local politician to his post with the police. Girwidz is until the end of the 7th. Staffel little happily married; his rebellious daughter Johanna also causes him difficulties again and again. Due to a completely derailed undercover action, in which Girwidz is caught heavily drunk at the wheel, he will be at the transition from the 7th to the 8th. Relay degraded to police chief and thus equated Hubert. Due to the associated loss of salary and prestige, his wife leaves him; since then, he himself has been suffering again and again from no longer being able to afford certain things. Hubert and he get together quite well after initial difficulties as an investigator duo.

Martin Riedl

[edit]

Police master Martin Riedl (Paul Sedlmeir) is the youngest male team member of the Wolfratshausen district. Riedl happens again and again mishaps, which are often based on his almost childish-naive way of thinking and his lack of self-confidence. At the same time, he is very submissive to his superior Girwidz in particular, which is why he is repeatedly used by him for strenuous and inferior activities. Hubert and Staller also do not take Riedl for full and repeatedly deny him equal participation in their investigations, although he certainly shows commitment and wants to distinguish himself in missions. Riedl also usually has to do without the ride in the only patrol car and is therefore often on the road with the company bicycle of the district. Despite all the stones that are put in his way in his service, Riedl is a good-natured and motivated character. In the later seasons, Riedl gradually gains some format; he begins to independently work on smaller cases and develops a slightly stronger self-confidence. He is strongly attracted to his colleague Lena Winter and is particularly disappointed when she leaves the district.

Sabine Kaiser

[edit]

At the beginning of the 8th Staffel Police Councilor Sabine Kaiser (Katharina Müller-Elmau) takes over the management of the Wolfratshausen district. She is an energetic and assertive superior, but she still reaches her limits with the well-rehearsed structures of her team of investigators. Again and again, it is also clear that she herself has minor weaknesses that cause her to act leniently, especially towards Hubert and Girwidz in the event of violations of the rules. Girwidz regularly sees her presence as provisional and repeatedly takes steps to bring him back to the top of the district. Kaiser also deals with this with calm and self-confidence.

Yazid

[edit]
Yazid's workshop "I do everything"

Yazid (Hannes Ringlstetter) is initially the owner of a mobile food truck, which Hubert and Staller visit regularly, and regularly meets Staller for a beer in Siggi Baumegger's Kneipe Zum Siggi after service. From the second season, Yazid runs a car workshop called "I do everything" after his snack truck allegedly burned down - in fact, it is apparently insurance fraud.[2] Yazid is regularly called up for various services by Hubert, Staller and Girwidz in particular or provides technical equipment necessary for investigations, whereby the police officers repeatedly exploit their knowledge of Yazid's often "semi-legal" businesses to force him to support. Yazid is an intelligent and eloquent character who knows how to bring his often inferior goods to the people at advantageous prices for him - with the exception of Hubert and Wirth, the team of the district also repeatedly falls for his seemingly cheap offers. From the middle of the 9th Staffel Yazid takes over the Rattlinger bakery from Barbara Hansen.

Johannes Staller

[edit]

Police chief Johannes Staller (Helmfried von Lüttichau) is a meaningful, sometimes self-overestimating policeman who feels great passion for his profession and sees it as a "vocation". In this enthusiasm, he is very different from his stripe partner Franz Hubert, but this difference in character is also an important facet of their friendly bond. Staller is open to alternative investigation methods, some of which also significantly exceed the limits of the permitted. At the same time, he often thinks outside the box and seeks unusual mental approaches to the cases he works on together with Hubert. While the latter looks at the crimes rather at a cool distance, Staller is emotionally very committed and therefore feels personally affected by failures. Staller's Marottes include the - even in completely inappropriate situations - constant wearing of the service cap and the uninhibited "trying out" of legacies at crime scenes or during witness questions. In addition, as an "eternal single" he always feels as quickly and unsuccessfully attracted to women he gets to know during the investigation. With the end of the 7th Staffel, Johannes Staller leaves the district in Wolfratshausen in the feature film special A beautiful gift to start a new life in Rome together with his girlfriend, whom he met there during a holiday trip.

Sonja Wirth

[edit]

Police master Sonja Wirth (Annett Fleischer) is mainly responsible for the internal service in the district - she takes the incoming calls, researches information and coordinates the investigative work. In this position, she also repeatedly plays a mediating role between Girwidz and her colleagues; she has practice in dampening the regular outbursts of anger of her boss - who consistently addresses her with the old-fashioned salutation "[Msss]]" - or to steert them in a different direction. In the rare cases in which she also works outside the district, she proves to be a competent and clever investigator who can always contribute important aspects, especially through her female point of view. Wirth is an intelligent and attractive young woman, which is why she is occasionally used by Hubert and Staller in covert investigations. With the end of the 6th Staffel Sonja Wirth leaves the district to develop professionally.

Anja Licht

[edit]

The coroner Anja Licht (Karin Thaler) is responsible for the forensic investigations of the crime scenes and the murder victims. In this function, she works as a pathologist at the Klinikum Wolfratshausen. In addition, she is Hubert's ex-wife, which repeatedly leads to frisct between the two in daily service operations, although it is clear that the two still have strong feelings for each other. Licht is a very competent and respected doctor, on whose examination results Hubert and Staller can firmly rely. Although she occasionally feels annoyed by the clumsiness of the police officers of the district when dealing with crime scene traces, she has friendly feelings for her and stands by them with words and deeds. Anja Licht leaves at the beginning of the 7th. Staffel Wolfratshausen, after she was personally involved in a murder case and therefore needs distance.
