Sentences removed from the Landmarks section
[edit]I removed information about an incident in 1961 that doesn't belong in the Landmarks section. It could be included in a section about recent history, if such a section is created. The following is the text that I removed:
On 30 November 1961 an incident occurred involving Ansett-ANA Flight 325, a Vickers Viscount aircraft, that crashed into Botany Bay nine minutes after taking off from Sydney Airport. All fifteen people on board died in the accident. The wreckage was recovered from the bay by divers from NSW Police and the Royal Australian Navy, assisted by HMAS Kimbla.[1]

First Fleet arrival section
[edit]In this section is states that the first fleet were panicked by the arrival of the possibility of the French beating them to it and so set sail that afternoon. I was under the impression that the first fleet had already set sail anyway and the French just happened by coincidence to arrive at that time. Does anyone have better information on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.124.16.33 (talk) 12:04, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Pushpin map?
[edit]Anybody knows how to place a pushpin map in this article? Thanks. 71.63.91.85 (talk) 10:18, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
I tried inserting the following code, but it did not work:
|pushpin_map = Australia New South Wales
|pushpin_relief = 1
| pushpin_label_position = right
|pushpin_map_caption = Location of Botany Bay in New South Wales
| latd =33 |latm =59 |lats =52.7994 |latNS = S
| longd =151 |longm =13 |longs =58.8 |longEW = E
|coordinates_type = type:waterbody_region:AU
|coordinates_display = inline,title
|coordinates_region = AU-NSW
Would appreciate any help. Thanks. 71.63.91.85 (talk) 10:23, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
Bogus claim ?
[edit]"The total catchment area of the bay is approximately 55 km2 (21 sq mi)."
The catchment area of the George's River is claimed to be 930 sq km, which is part of the catchment of Botany Bay, so the 55 sq km claim would be seem to be quite wrong.Lathamibird (talk) 10:41, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Cook's Secret Overland Walk
[edit]Hello all
I have removed this section because it contains highly speculative material which I don't think complies with Wikipedia's "just the facts" approach. None of the primary sources mention that Cook went overland to Port Jackson from Botany Bay. Cook's journal indicates that Cook first saw and named Port Jackson when he sailed past in the Endeavour on 6 May 1770. --Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 07:28, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
Aboriginal history
[edit]Hello all
I have deleted some incorrect information, namely: "An artefact collected on Cook's first voyage in Botany Bay is the bark shield left behind by a member of a local Aboriginal tribe. This very rare object is now in the British Museum's collection and was the subject of a programme in the BBC radio series A History of the World in 100 Objects." The latest scholarly research shows that the Shield in the British Museum is not the one taken by Banks from Botany Bay. See Gweagal. --Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 22:48, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
