Closing statement of article
[edit]"Boece shared in the credulity of his age, but the charge of inventing his authorities formerly brought against him has been shown to be, to some extent at any rate, unfounded."
This sentence needs a reference. Or maybe it just needs to be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.121.204.129 (talk) 16:31, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
The whole article, while apparently accurate, requires references. The sentence cited above is a direct quote from p40 of Cousin's 1910 work. Cousin's opinion is interesting because it shows that,100 years ago, some scholars were apparently revising the opinion of Boece's work. The remainder of the article may have relied on Cousin's work, but is not a direct quotation.Inver471ness (talk) 15:07, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Image origin
[edit]The linked website for the image now goes to a detectorist page where the image cannot be found. There is therefore no reliable source for the image and for the statement that it's contemporary with the subject. It would be useful if this could be traced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.243.2.4 (talk) 15:50, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
The Name Boece = Buis?
[edit]There is a modern Scottish surname "Buis" and I am wondering if Boece and Buis might be the same thing? Then Boece = Boethius becomes a kind of folk etymology in the style of Romulus and Remus with the she-wolf of Rome, etc. 76.67.126.105 (talk) 12:06, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- The usual modern spelling of "Boece" is "Boyce". It's not that common a name, even in Scotland, but there are a few Boyces around. On the other hand "Buis" would be considered really unusual. I've never come across it in Scotland or anywhere else. -- Derek Ross | Talk 16:58, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
