The horse's mouth
[edit]I have just posted a link (ABC / BBC poll from Feb 2009) re Afghani opinion of the war. Is it not a little ironic that there seem to be no / few other examples from the people of this country. Also interesting to note, as resident of the UK who consumes a fair amount of media, I have never heard such a survey reported. The fact that more Afghanis blame the Americans than the Taliban for the conflict in their country is an inconvenient truth I guess. Anyway I commend the users and contributors of this site - it is an excellent resource - any further evidence of what the Afghanis themeslves think would be welcome and appropriate.
I'm looking for more recient polls from 2010. Any Suggestions? Joe —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.134.52.236 (talk) 22:22, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
This entire article is a mockery to Wiki
[edit]Out of the 20 links i have investigated, none of them correctly quote the article, giving misleading quotes, stats, and at times leaving our key phrases such as 'withdrawal timelines'. For example the very first line "August 2011 United States: The large majority of Americans, 73%, want their country to withdraw troops from Afghanistan" is completely misleading and false. It it not only taken out of context, but miswords it as well. The question asked was "Do you support the Afghanistan drawdown timeline?" In referring to Obama's 2014 withdrawal suggested plan. The article reads as following: "At this point, a large majority (73%) wants the United States to reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan, but less than half (44%) want troops withdrawn completely." The context still being in referring to the 2014 time frame plan.
The rest of the entries bare striking similar circumstances and grievances. The entire article needs to be deleted and redone.

- The statement you misleadingly only quoted part of is actually:
- The large majority of Americans, 73%, want their country to withdraw troops from Afghanistan: The clear plurality 44% of Americans want their country to withdraw "all troops completely", and another 29% of Americans want the number of American troops in Afghanistan to be decreased.
- Wanting to reduce the number of troops is wanting to withdraw troops. It is impossible to reduce the number of troops without withdrawing troops. The large majority 73% want to withdraw troops to reduce the number there, and the majority of that 73% want all the troops withdrawn. All this is presented very clearly and transparently in the statement in question. Meanwhile the 2014 timeframe you refer to is nowhere in the wording of the actual poll question, which is not the one that you misleadingly and falsely presented here, and that you demonstrably made up.
- You incredibly then used this one single instance, against which you had no credible argument, to argue for the wholesale deletion of the entire article. 70.51.29.154 (talk) 03:18, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

POV-pushing
[edit]I've edited the 2011 section in an effort to resolve the POV pushing in this article. We do not need to be told "a majority" of 51%, or "overwhelming majority" of xx%, or "only" xx% of different groups favor or disfavor a position. Other Wikipedians are invited/urged to continue this editing process. --S. Rich (talk) 20:03, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Size split?
[edit]Split - Article is over 100 kB, and should be split starting with the years.--Jax 0677 (talk) 02:18, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
- If the article needs reducing in size, then the whole article needs reducing to a summary. If there are details then they could be put in sub articles. International public opinion on the war in Afghanistan (2007) for example probably would not be notable and so we should not really be creating that type of article.
