Why he was Killed
[edit]The Mahabharata states that Jarasandha was killed because he tried to sacrifice kings to Shiva. In book 2 (Sabha Parva), section 22, Krishna states:
But thou, O king, treating other kings with cruelty, seekest to offer them as sacrifice unto the god Rudra! O son of Vrihadratha, this sin committed by thee may touch even us, for as we are virtuous in our practices, we are capable of protecting virtue. The slaughter of human being as sacrifice unto the gods is never seen. Why dost thou, therefore, seek to perform a sacrifice unto god Sankara by slaughtering human beings?

While Jarasandha was killed for his cruelty, there was a deeper political reason behind it. Yudhisthira on advice of Krishna starts preparing for Rajasuya yagya as a means of expansion against the formidable kingdom of Hastinapur. However, Jarasandha from Magadha in his ambition fuelled by the desire of expansion also plans for a Rajasuya yagya at the same time. To mitigate any chance of Jarasandha annexing the surrounding kingdoms, Krishna asks Bhima to kill Jarasandha in a malla yudhha. Ninjapandey (talk) 20:26, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

Reason for revert
[edit]Please explain the reason for adding the unsourced content @Arjunkrishna90 -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 09:41, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
@Capankajsmilyo Why cant you simply provide a [citation needed] tag and wait sometime for someone to provide the references ? You are simple axing a lot of data contributed by editors over the time ! At least have the decency to respect the contribution of other's dude !! If you go on this style i believe Wikipedia will be going back in time to its infancy !!. I am reverting your edits. Have patience and wait out for some time after putting the citation needed tag.Arjunkrishna90 (talk) 02:58, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
