Greek Romanian

[edit]

Hello Dahn,

Unless you choose a decent definition for Greek Romanian, I'll revert the labelling of Mateiu Caragiale as Greek Romanian. The variants that look decent to me are:

  1. A self-declared ethnic Greek living in Romania and clearly related to the Greek community.
  2. A person of notorious Greek ancestry.

Any of the two will do. Mateiu Caragiale is a Greek Romanian by the second definition, not by the first. Dpotop 19:41, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Care to present a source for that interesting take on the matter? Dahn 19:59, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For the second (which I prefer): Greek American, Italian-American, Romanian-American, ...
For the first, I presume that the Hungarian minority in Romania gives a very restrictive definition. Dpotop 10:06, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have asked you for a source to support your theories on who is and who is not a Greek-Romanian. As for the rest, Jmabel has let you know on the notice board what applies in the English-speaking world. Dahn 11:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Jmabel presented exactly what I consider a good definition to "Greek Romanian": A person of significative Greek ancestry. Not the percentages you introduced to avoid calling the Cantacuzinos Greek Romanians. Dpotop 13:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Where the hell did I avoid calling the Cantacuzinos "Greek Romanians"? You see the family listed in both the category and the list, don't you? And this has, of course, nothing to with Mateiu, who is of significant Greek heritage (his father). Are we done here? Dahn 14:09, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so Tariceanu is Greek Romanian, too. I do agree now with this, when the criterion is clear. I also created Greek Romanian, feel free to add stuff to it. :) Dpotop 14:11, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, on the Romanian noticeboard you said: "I had grown tired of various users who were including Cantacuzinos living in the 20th century into the Greek-Ro category". So 1. you did say it and 2. given that nobody really knows Mateiu Caragiale was a Greek Romanian, I'd say he is as Greek Romanian as the 20th century Cantacuzinos.
