DSO citations

[edit]

Citaitons for his DSO and bar are available from TNA. Drop me a line if you want to take a look. David Underdown (talk) 14:41, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On a second look, I see you've already found the citation for the bar. I've tweaked it to use {{quote}} so the paragraph breaks work properly. Also, per WP:MOSQUOTE, block quotes should ue quote marks as well. David Underdown (talk) 14:53, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers David. would his 1943 citation be the same as this perchance? If so can I ref it in the same way you have the other one? Ranger Steve (talk) 14:56, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Essentially yes. In the original, position is consistently abbreviated "posn", and in the opening the unit name is given as "2nd Bn Parachute Regt". You should jsut be able to copy and paste the ref, and replace the url with http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=7643919 The Gazette entry for this is at, http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/36297/supplements/5572 (you should also be bale to find his MC and all his promotions) David Underdown (talk) 15:06, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I notice trawling through the Times archive that he seems to have been quite a decent rugby player. An R T H Lonsdale is reported as being on the RMC Sandurst team at the time he would have been there (this report also suggests his service as a private was in the Duke of Wellington's Regiment). After he was commissioned there are several reports of him (or at least an R. T. H. Lonsdale) playing for Blackheath F.C.. David Underdown (talk) 15:28, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

David, out of interest, is the existing citation for the DSO at Arnhem the same as the National Archives as well? I'm curious about a reference to the River Lek..... Ranger Steve (talk) 13:34, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the roiginal definitely refers to the Lek. David Underdown (talk) 13:49, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
