Sean Andorfer Peer Review
[edit]I believe you paint a very good picture of what it is like to be a youth in Denmark. I noticed you said that there were differences between classes on the way parents rule. Are there differences between classes elsewhere?
To help you build a lead paragraph, I would take a sentence from each section that is the most important and build a lead paragraph that way. Don't use the same wording of course, but just summarize what is to come. This will help keep it unbiased as well.
You might want to edit the health section. Does not eating breakfast affect the women's health in anyway? If not, then that might be better under the culture section.
I would leave the alcohol section in culture as it seems to have more of a cultural impact on the lives of youth.
To expand your health section, you can use a review of overall health and statistics from Denmark and their youth. Look at problem areas such as obesity or alcoholism. I know last year that they recalled a fat tax which taxed all fatty foods but didn't help the problem. There is also a Danish statistic website, www.dst.dk that you can right click and translate into English and look for statistics that way. You could also just talk about the overall health care system in Denmark and the impacts it has on youth.
FYI I did do a little syntax editing for you so you can look at that as well. Good Job.
Peer Edit
[edit]Nice job with how in depth you are on all sections.
There are some things in the culture section that seem like they could fit better under the education section.
Also may I suggest linking to more than just the University of Copenhagen page? I am currently looking for ideas of pages for you to link to. I will get back to you with that. Darexo (talk) 22:00, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Sorry so late - comments from Prof. V on pre-draft version
[edit]Lhegtvedt, I apologize for my tardiness in responding. You have put together a strong draft. I really commend you for your outstanding work!!! I will try to answer each of your queries point by point.
- Writing and word choice. I will wait until the draft to make comments on this. Hopefully peers will copy edit, too. As a suggestion for all sections, I recommend you consider comparing Denmark to the rest of Europe or the industrialized world. How are youth doing in Denmark compared with elsewhere? You do this in some places. Also, think about where you will link to other articles and also where in other articles you will link to yours so itwon't be an orphan.
- I appreciate your question about drinking and culture vs. health. After reading Furlong this week, I lean towards culture. I also urge you to include the Jarvinen article in your work. It’s a 2007 piece called “Teenage drinking symbolic capital and distinction.”
- Lead paragraph. This is the most challenging item to include. I looked over the lead paragraphs for other “youth in” articles. I found them boring! But, to list what they included: include: percent of total population that is young. Demographic explanations for why they are the percentage of the population that they are. I also saw citing rural/urban distribution of youth or any other relevant demographic factoids. I found an article on “elderly in Japan” that included in the lead a comparison to peer (in this case, industrialized, countries). Tapbh also described key sociological issues affecting youth – in the case of Czech Republic, the influence on non-compulsory education in prolonging youth. These ideas might help you to craft a catchy opening paragraph.
- Health: In looking over trends, youth in Denmark healthy relative to other developed countries. I put that sentence first. The breakfast stuff can be consolidated. What are leading factors promoting health? Adolescent sexuality rates? Pregnancy rates? Causes of mortality in youth? What are the health impacts of drinking?
- Culture – I recommend opening with main ideas rather than the example of drinking. What else has been written about youth culture in Denmark? I would search the Journal of Youth Studies with the “any word” specifier “Denmark” to catch all articles that mention youth.
- What do you mean by a "generally smooth transition for many" in terms of education? This is unclear.
Great work – keep it up! Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 22:14, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Questions/Suggestions
[edit]As I researched the topic "Youth in Denmark", I found the term "private provider" when discussing unemployment benefits. Does anyone happen to know what a "private provider" is or another term we could use on the site instead? I would like a clearer understanding.
Also, I struggled on organizing the "Sports" section under Culture and the last paragraph of the education section. If anyone can reorganize those sentences or add information to make more sense of the topics, that would be helpful. Or, if anyone has any suggestions to improve the paragraphs, I would be happy to edit the sections as well.

- @Lhegtvedt: My best guess is that "private provider" simply refers to a private agency that handles unemployment benefits (the bottom of this page describes it briefly). I made a small change in wording to the Sports section. I was unclear what it meant when you wrote "girls' sports are treated at an equal level with boys' sports". Does that just refer to equal funding for sports, like title IX in the US? Gobōnobō + c 19:45, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
