D.Gray-man

Improved to Good Article status by Tintor2 (talk) and TenTonParasol (talk). Nominated by Narutolovehinata5 (talk) at 12:01, 8 December 2016 (UTC).

  • This is a newly promoted GA which was nominated in time and is plenty long enough. The original hook is acceptable with the facts being supported by inline citations, but have struck ALT1 as it mentions New York having a major influence on the setting and plot, a fact not mentioned in the article. The article is neutral and I did not find any significant close-paraphrasing in the sources I checked. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:13, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
@Yoninah: How about these:
  • ALT2:... that the character Millenium Earl from D.Gray-man has been compared to villains from the Batman franchise? Source: [1]
  • ALT3:... that the plot of the second volume of the manga D.Gray-man was based on a Noh story? Source: Hoshino, Katsura (2006). D.Gray-man, Volume 2. Viz Media. p. 119. ISBN 1-4215-0624-6.
I haven't actually read the manga or watched any of the anime adaptations, so I'll leave it to Tintor2 to suggest other possible hooks, if necessary. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:54, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Interesting but I think I reached my limit of DYKs (I think the number was 5). Shouldn't I do something else before being part of a DYK?Tintor2 (talk) 13:37, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: There is no limit to how many DYKs you can have; however, if you have nominated more than five articles for DYK, you are required to review at least one other DYK nomination for every article you nominate (QPQ). Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:04, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
But Narutolovehinata5 is the nominator here, and s/he has submitted a QPQ to go with this nomination, so no other QPQs are necessary. Tintor2 next time you nominate an article for DYK, you will have to submit a QPQ with it. Yoninah (talk) 14:06, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
How about something like:
I don't know, but I think that proposed hook is too long to fit DYK's guidelines (you can read them). Also, when discussing fiction in DYK hooks, it's recommended that hooks should be about real-world facts about the topic, instead of in-universe information. As such, unfortunately, I think your proposed hook would not be allowed. Given that you are article's main contributor, you are free (and encouraged) to proposed more hooks, though. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:18, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
That sounds like a good one, although Yoninah raised above that another hook on the franchise involving Hoshino may be a bit of a stretch.

  • Narutolovehinata5 I'm not sure where you're coming up with these DYK rules; perhaps you should reread WP:DYK and WP:DYKSG. ALT4 is comfortably under 200 characters and definitely involves the real world; it's not just focused on the plot. ALT5 is also good. My problem with the original hook was more that it mirrored the earlier hook in style, focusing on what influenced the author. I'll review both of these shortly. Yoninah (talk) 16:33, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
  • ALT4 does not have an inline cite, so let's go with ALT5, which is shorter anyway. Offline hook ref AGF and cited inline. I tweaked the hook and added some links. Rest of review per Cwmhiraeth. ALT5 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 16:56, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
