Source: The 1854 Oregon legislators guide shows Cartee was Speaker of the Oregon Territory House of Representatives that session; an Idaho Statesman article published on 28 Nov 1936 (45 years after Cartee’s death) highlights his horticultural expertise, headline says: "Lafayette Cartee First Nurseryman in Idaho … Versatile Pioneer Established First Canning Factory and First Greenhouse in Boise; Imports Trees from Orient" … long article goes on to say: "Lafayette Cartee, pioneer nursery man … The honor of being the father of the nursery business in this fair city (Boise) belongs to him (Cartee) and none other."
