James Turner Murray (27 November 1865 - 19 March 1931) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Robert Murray (born c. 1819), a cabinet maker from Dunbar, East Lothian.

His mother was Isabella Turner (born c. 1829) from Castleton, Argyll. Robert and Isabella married on 20 December 1847 in the Gorbals, Glasgow.

James Turner Murray was born on 27 November 1865 in Newington, Edinburgh.[7][8]

He married Annie Middleton Goldie. They married at Granton Parish Church in Edinburgh on 16 June 1908. Annie was married by her uncle, the Rev. Thomas S. Goldie. Her father was the late Robert George Middleton Goldie of Springfield, Lanarkshire; and her grandfather was the late Dr. Thomas Duncan, the deputy surgeon general.[9]

Death

He died on 19 March 1931 at Edinburgh. The probate record gives two usual addresses: 6 Inverleith Avenue and 29 Queen Street, both in Edinburgh.

His estate was valued at £1195, 1 shilling and 8 pence.[11]
