Why is the sandbox lower-case when most MW pages have initial uppercase? What about User:Pelagic/Sandbox?

[edit]I'm intrigued by this picture (Fig. 4) and its enigmatic description.
WoRMS synonymises P. fragum with Drupella fragum, but the latter doesn't appear to have russet nodules. The photo WoRMS links to – Purpura alba Hombron & Jacquinot, 1848 – looks completely different.
6° P. FRAISE. P. Fragum.
Google translate gives this as:
Quite thick, solid, oval-biconical, tubero-thorny, sub-fused shell, with fairly distinct turns of the coil, provided with streaks and series of currants of rounded tubers, four in number on the last; small opening, sub-grimacing, sub-calcined forward, and narrowed by six teeth at the right edge, and two to three columellar guttules; color yellowish white, with pink or russet tubers on the outside, all white inside.
11 to 12 lig. long by 8 to 9 wide.
This pretty species, whose homeland we do not know, is based on two individuals from the Museum's collection.
Userspace restructure
[edit]Aim: get stuff out of sandbox; create nicer structure; make sandbox or Sandbox just for testing.
Advantages of putting stuff in sandbox:
- Preservation. Other users are less likely to touch it or do cleanup.
- Navigation. Most skins and interfaces have a direct sandbox link.
Disadvantages of putting stuff in sandbox:
- Intention. The sandbox is meant to be raked clean occasionally. It's not really for building durable sandcastles.
- Given how disorganised I can be, it’s a bit more like a kitty-litter tray. Time to scoop it yet?

Getting started:
- Dashboard — big overview of noticeboards and requests. CAn sometimes find interesting things to do here if you're into things like reviewing COI or protected edit requests.
- Teahouse
- WP:Questions — links out to Reference Desk, FAQ, Teahouse, Helpdesk, Editor Assistance, Village Pump and others. Also instructions for posting help requests via

Quicknote: articles about Murdoch policitcal influence are still popping up. Not for wiki, but need to close the tab for performance reasons:
Perhaps I should make pages for lists of essays and tools so that I can find them again.
- But then if I change my mind, I can't delete the page. Might just do sections here instead. See below.

This tool could be helpful: Article Blamer — find addition of text in a page history.

Oh, dang it, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion says 'Note that we do not delete user subpages merely to "clean up" userspace.' But compare WP:U1 and probably G7, so maybe clean-up is okay if requested by the author?

[edit]Indian subjects
[edit]Common problems are overtranslation into multiple languages and scripts, inconsistent English spelling and roman transliteration of key terms.
Wikipedia:Manual of Style/India-related articles a.k.a. MOS:INDIA recommends opening with one language in {{indic}}
. Note the scope of that guide is people, organisations, places and history; rather than where my interest lies with language and culture (though arguably these overlap with history).
This 2011 discussion on native languages in lead was summarised as no consensus on mother-tongue indic scripts,with mild support for IPA, but the focus was mostly bio's and films. Further discussion on DQ's talkpage User_talk:DeltaQuad/Archives/2012/January#Native_languages_in_lead asserted the scope to be all India-related articles, but support for that seemed to be coming from only a few people. Still, it ended up as a project guideline at WP:NOINDICSCRIPT, but didn't go into MOS.
Fast forward to 2017 and this is still cropping up. To Do July August 2018
[edit]Userspace to-do
[edit]- Add a section to main user page or create a subpage for stuff I've done, like new articles and DYK nom's. Nauclerus, Cheerleading in Australia.
- How-to cheat sheets.
E.g. I find the DYK instructions confusing and could create my own summary for personal use. - Template cheat-sheets. There are things that I'm always having to look up because I can't remember the syntax.
- Clean up Sandbox!
- Some kind of meta-wiki or wtf-wiki? collection of interesting links. Good quotes, too.
- A template that combines
{{code}}
with <nowiki>. Does one already exist? Should I make one? Will it fall apart with '>' and '<' signs, like thus:<nowiki>
? - A page or section for places to visit...
- ...like Village Pump, Teahouse, Dashboard, advanced search, signpost.
- ... or maybe a "Getting Around" page with sections for getting around article space (categories, portals, etc.), getting around wikipedia space (dashboard, pump, help, community portal, RFCs, noticeboards, etc.), getting around meta ...
- Additional useful tools:
- Special:Prefixindex e.g. Special:Prefixindex/User:Pelagic.
- Other Special pages - Help:Special page
- Page of useful navboxes (starting this in sandbox, will move to another subfolder), like technical help, inline maint. templates, section maint. templates, ...
To do in mainspace
[edit]- Check out wikipedia coverage of Australia's My Health Record. There has been a lot of media coverage recently around the announcement that people will be automatically added in if they don't pre-emptively opt out before October 2018.
Miscellany for inclusion elsewhere
[edit]E.g. if I was to have a separate wtf-wiki list, &/or a list of good quotes for re-use.
- Toilet paper orientation. Not only does this article exist, but it is lengthy and well-researched. Plus it contains the following navbox
{{Toilets}}
. - McMillen, Andrew (2015-03-07). "How I Snuck Through Wikipedia's Notability Test". Medium. Retrieved 22 July 2018.
- "I can't tell whether that indicates the reverse senses are generally accepted in India or there are just a lot of less skilled writers of English in India, where many writers speak another language primarily. The same articles typically are replete with other instances of irregular grammar that I've never heard of being accepted anywhere." from User:Giraffedata/comprised_of
- " WP is not a linguistic work, and it is not an informal conversation reflecting only the bleeding edge of the vernacular. It is, like other encyclopedias, written in a rather formal register of English, and as such it is subject to a wide variety of prescriptive rules (when the majority of major style guides that inform ours agree on the point, or when WP decides on its own what is best for our context and audience, usually siding with clarity over breeziness)."
