Bartellots
[edit]You should be able to find more confirmation of his military career in the London Gazette, search page here In this particular case it's probably easiest just to search on the surname, and restrict to a suitable date range, you'll get some false positives for his father and sons, but there shouldn't be too many - I know I found some for him when doing the 3rd Baronet. Let me know if yo have any trouble with this, the search can sometimes be a bit hit and miss because of the way the old copies have been scanned in. Replaceable fair use Image:Hal Fryar.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Hal Fryar.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? J Milburn (talk) 13:29, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Sandbox & Categories
[edit]Hi, just a note to let you know that you need to put a colon in front of categories when in your sand box to prevent them actually showing in the category page. Thus instead of [[Category:Foo]] which places the article in the "Foo" category, use [[:Category:Foo]], which doesn't place the (sandbox) article in the "Foo" category, but turns it into a link instead. You just need to remember to remove the colons when you transfer the article to mainspace. Mjroots (talk) 09:34, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Apologies for accidentally overwriting your submission at WP:DYK. Since it was an excellent article i was trying to nominate it as well, but due to a rather slow internet connection i didn't notice you were doing the same - hence i kept overwriting your suggestion because i thought i accidently posted it twice. Should be fixed now though :) Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 12:06, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

AdSteam
[edit]Do you actually intend to do something about creating an "AdSteam" article?
If so, I think that's "really good"!
If you would like help doing so, just tell me what help you'd like.
FYI, I started an article, (User talk:Pdfpdf/AdSteam), but "ran out of steam".(Groan ... )
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:17, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hey there,
- Yes, I actually started working on it last night. It's in my sandbox User:Spy007au/Sandbox2. I would happy to combine resources, if you want. Wikipedia is only a hobby for me, when I get some free time, so I can go days without editing. From what I can see, there is a real need for the article. Let me know.
- Regards, Spy007au (talk) 21:21, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- I like what you've been doing, and I think that this is very nice! Yes, I was always amused by the fact that AdSteam owned 15% of Westpac, financed by money AdSteam had borrowed from Westpac. Another Spalvins trick was DJs owned a controlling interest in AdSteam, and AdSteam owned a controlling interest in DJs, making the pair "takeover-proof". (And yes, the boards of the two companies had very similar membership.) I had a complete set of AdSteam annual reports from 1985-1995, but I had a big cleanup last year and threw them out ...
- So, where do you want me to go from here? Pdfpdf (talk) 10:40, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Reply Pdfpdf (talk) 11:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry to be so slow in responding.
- "Hey, your research and collection of data is outstanding" - That's very flattering, but completely over-stated. (But I'm not about to start arguing with you!)
- "and has far exceeded my initial expectations for this article." - Yes, sorry about that. Few are even aware of my obsessions, let alone get exposed to them ...
- "Ive been dabling in your research material," - Jolly good. I hope you've found it half as interesting as I have.
- "but are you comfortable if I start incorporating some of your raw data into the main article?" - Hey! I might even feel flattered!!! (Yes, I am EXTREMELY comfortable with you doing what ever you like.)
- Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:24, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

- Got your note, thanks. OK, I'll try to stop getting distracted and will focus on 1970-2009.
- A few questions/comments, pretty well all to do with the opening paragraph of http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/lines/adelaide.htm. I have my doubts about that paragraph - it makes some statements that I haven't seen elsewhere:
- The Adelaide SS Co. was formed in 1875 at the time of the Victorian and New South Wales gold rushes to operate Australian coastal passenger and cargo services. The company expanded rapidly and in 1915 took over the Coast Steamship Co. By the second world war, the company owned 30 ships and after the war, the company diversified into towage, shipbuilding, salt, coal, sugar industries etc. In 1958 the company purchased a large share in Bulkships Ltd and by 1968 owned 50% with McIlwraith McEacharn Ltd owning the other half. In 1964 the two companies merged to form Associated Steamships Ltd. Thomas Nationwide Transport was accepted as a one third partner in 1970 in exchange for their holding in R. W. Miller & Co., tanker owners and Adelaide SS Co. still holds a quarter interest in Bulkships Ltd.
- "at the time of the Victorian and New South Wales gold rushes" - I thought the gold rushes were in the 1850s?
- "after the war, the company diversified into towage, shipbuilding, salt, coal, sugar industries etc." - Well, we've found info about towage and shipbuilding, but I haven't seen anything about salt, coal and/or sugar. Have you?
- "Thomas Nationwide Transport was accepted as a one third partner in 1970 in exchange for their holding in R. W. Miller & Co., tanker owners" - More data!
- "Adelaide SS Co. still holds a quarter interest in Bulkships Ltd." - I wonder when that paragraph was written?

DYK
[edit]Copied from my talk page:
- Would like to list the article on DYK as a joint effort (your IT skills are significantly better than mine).
- ... in partnership with McIlwraith, McEacharn & Co., the Adelaide Steamship Company developed the world's first purpose built container ships?
- Cheers, Spy007au (talk) 13:38, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- Be aware that Containerization#Purpose-built_ships contains contradictory (albeit unreferenced) claims. –Moondyne 15:17, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi again. I've never been involved with the DYK process - I expect you know much more about it than I do. (Not difficult, given that I know nothing ... )
As you are the ship expert, I think it's appropriate that you get all the credit.
(However, you should probably get to the bottom of Moondyne's observation first ... )
Again, if you would like any help, don't hesitate to tell me what you would like help with.
Best wishes, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:53, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

- 2) What's the DYK status?

[edit]THE SOUTHERN CROSS PITCH The Australian Baseball Task Force Newsletter Issue 1 – July 2009
|
This 1st edition doesn't have a whole lot in it, as you can see. At this stage its more of a call to action than anything else: anyone wanting to help out the task force is more than welcome to join in. Even if you don't feel you have something you can contribute, please spread the word to others who might. My intention is to try and put this out once a quarter or so at this stage - assuming anyone's interested in receiving it. If things pick up and there's plenty to put into the newsletter, then it might come out a little more often. The only people that received this who have not specifically requested it are people listed as members of the task force itself. To those people: I'll move you guys to an 'inactive' list if I don't hear back one way or the other, and you won't keep receiving the newsletter after this- I'm using this to poke those that are still active into coming by the task force pages every once in a while. |

AfD nomination of What happens on tour, stays on tour
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is What happens on tour, stays on tour. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/What happens on tour, stays on tour. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:19, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Southern Cross Pitch, September 2009
[edit]THE SOUTHERN CROSS PITCH The Australian Baseball Task Force Newsletter Issue 2 – September 2009
The following articles have been promoted past start-class, or included in the task force's scrutiny, since the last edition: |
Recently a new barnstar has been created for WikiProject Baseball, as a substitute for the {{Running Man Barnstar}}: {{The Baseball Barnstar}}. This has given me an idea for the newsletter. If any task force member gives a barnstar to someone for any work that relates to Australian baseball, or if any member receives a barnstar for any work they do, let me know on my talk page. I'll check with the user to make sure they're happy to be listed here (because I know some people don't necessarily like that sort of attention) and assuming I get the green-light I'll put it in the next edition of the newsletter.
