Armenian State Jazz Orchestra
[edit]Armenian state jazz orchestra has a long almost one century history. The Orchestra was founded in 1938 by a cellist, songwriter and composer Artemi Ayvazyan.Today, it is the best in the region with its musicians, playlists, collaborations . The orchestra represents all styles of jazz music and the discoverer of new jazz authors and artists. Since 2010 the orchestra's artistic director and conductor is saxophonist, composer, instrumentalist Armen Hyusnunts. The State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia collaborates with the best musicians in the world and the world. For the past 10 years, the orchestra has performed with Di Di Bridgewater, Arturo Sandoval, Adam Rapa, Chico Freeman, John Marshall (drummer), Jimmy Davis (songwriter), Sharon Clark, Michael Mayo, Ronald Baker,<Igor Butman, Mariam Merabova, Arto Tunçboyacıyan, Tigran Hamasyan and many other. It has had many concert tours around the world: in Russia, Tunisia, Poland, Germany, France, Lebanon, Syria, United States.
History

The State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia has almost a century of history, founded in 1938 under the leadership of cellist, songwriter, composer Artemi Ayvazyan. The orchestra has enjoyed the love and appreciation of the audience since its inception. In a short time, the jazz band composed of talented and bright musicians gained wide recognition throughout the former USSR, performing numerous concerts and tours. The masterfully chosen playlist, the songs of Ayvazyan and other Armenian authors have created a strong bond between musicians and listeners. During World War II, the orchestra performed throughout the front. The Ayvazyan Orchestra included talented names such as Tsolak Vardazaryan (trumpet), Mikayel Khachatryan (trumpet) and of course the founder of the Jazz School of Jazz in Armenia Robert Yolchyan.
1956-1992
Since 1956 the orchestra has been led by brilliant pianist, talented composer Konstantin Orbelyan, who has led the orchestra for 36 years. The Orbelyan-led orchestra has already gained worldwide recognition, the orchestra's performance, the individuality of the soloists, and Orbelyan's skillful leadership have further enhanced the orchestra's reputation and worldwide recognition. The orchestra performed in many cities of the Soviet Union, in a number of countries around the world: Tunisia, Poland, Germany, France, Lebanon, Syria and more. And in 1975 Exclusive tours were held in the USA in the country of jazz. The legendary maestro orchestra has performed and gained recognition from many soloists and musicians, including Larisa Dolina, Irina Otieva, Alla Pugacheva, Jacques Duvalyan, Simon Teryan, Erna Yuzbashyan, Zara Tonikyan, Tatevik Hovhannisyan, Elvina Makaryan.
1992-1997
The State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia has been silent for 5 years due to the war, economic and social situation in Armenia.
1997-2010
1997 The orchestra resumes its work under the direction of pianist, instrumentalist and composer Armen Martirosyan (musician). Reopened, full of talented young musicians, the orchestra supplemented its playlist with new, modern, fresh instrumentation and creations, and soon received several international music awards and recorded three recordings.
2010 until now
In 2010, the orchestra's artistic director was saxophonist, instrumentalist and composer Armen Hyusnunts, who played in the orchestra under the direction of the late 80's Konstantin Orbelian and was the soloist and music director of the orchestra after its reopening. He has brought with him, as a leader, a more intimate and warm team approach to the musicians. In recent years, the orchestra's playlists have been multiplied, including samples of world jazz music and 80-year-old Armenian jazz, authored and original works written and arranged by Armenian authors of different generations over the past 80 years.Today, the orchestra also presents works and instrumentals by modern young Armenian authors, who are remarkable for their fresh, original, national hues and high-quality sound. The orchestra's performances are also exceptional thanks to the collaborations; Vahagn Hayrapetyan, Artak Nersesyan, Jivan Gasparyan Jr., Avag Margaryan, Michael Voskanyan and many more.
Along with the concerts, the orchestra conducts educational programs to connect jazz to the larger public as a listener, forming a high taste and knowledge of world music.
In recent years the orchestra has performed in Russia, Belarus, United States, Canada, France, Latvia and Lithuania. Internationally known soloists such as DI di Bridewater, Arturo Sandoval, Adam Rapa, Chico Freeman, John Marshall, Jamie Davis (musician), Sharon Clark, Michael Mayo, Ronald Baker, Igor Butman, Mariam Merabova, Arto Tunçboyacıyan, Tigran Hamasyan performed with the orchestra. Today the orchestra is the most vibrant and colorful orchestra with its musicians, playlists, collaborations and ever-evolving ideas.
