Hello! I am Beatleswhobeachboys. I'm a big fan of rock music, namely bands such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Who, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, and others.

[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Pure And Easy a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Mikaey, Devil's advocate 20:29, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- (In reply to your message on my talk page) No problem. If you find that you can't move a page because there's already a page at the spot you're trying to move it to, just tag it with {{db-move}}, and an administrator will come along and delete the page for you (assuming that it's a redirect that doesn't have any significant history, for example). Thanks, Mikaey, Devil's advocate 20:39, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ducks on the Wall, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.kindakinks.net/discography/showsong.php?song=94.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Singles cover art
[edit]Some of the cover art images you've uploaded are not real and it may be best not to overdo foreign cover artwork since it will end up confusing people. I would use Template:Extra album cover for that, but I'm not even sure it's proper for Wiki articles to have foreign artwork since they're not canonical and thus non-notable. The Who singles discography/Go to the Mirror!
[edit]Hello, I noticed that you removed Go to the Mirror! from the navigational box back in November. However, as you can see from the image on the page, it was at least a single in Australia. Do you know if it was a single in either the US or UK at some point? - Bossanoven (talk) 02:38, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
I've noticed that you made several edits to The Who's singles discography navbox in 2014. What was your source for these edits? - Bossanoven (talk) 04:10, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for explaining. While you certainly may create album navigational boxes, it is generally a good idea to limit it to albums for which all of its songs have an article (or at least the vast majority of them). The only exceptions I would make to this rule of thumb are albums that have so many related articles so as to require a category or navigational box (basically, this limits this second condition to rock operas like Tommy or The Wall). - Bossanoven (talk) 00:04, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Gilson Lavis (Squeeze drummer).jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Gilson Lavis (Squeeze drummer).jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 09:44, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

BOTR song
[edit]Hi Beatleswhobeachboys. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to add any more at Band on the Run (song). In fact, I'd been digging around trying to find more sources, particularly to support discussion of the song's structure, interpretation of the themes, etc. I was a bit surprised to see you'd nominated it already – I think you're going to hit some problems, with that key point ("'Band on the Run' is a three-part medley …") and others not carrying references at all. If it helps, I've found the Praeger Singer-Songwriter Collection titles on George Harrison and John Lennon quite useful, and there's one on McCartney also, by Vincent P. Benitez: The Words and Music of Paul McCartney. I've not been able to access the pages for this song, though (pp. 52–53) – which is frustrating. I get the impression that Benitez focuses mainly on the musical aspects of Mac's compositions (which is strange because one of the things that bothers me about Ian Inglis's Praeger book on George is that it concentrates on lyrics and mood, and gives almost nothing about musical structure; same thing, from what I've seen, with the corresponding book on John by Ben Urish and Ken Bielen). Anyway, if you can access those magic pages 52 and 53, I imagine they'd be invaluable for the article. What I'd always thought to do is title the first section "Background and inspiration" and take the paragraph beginning "'Band on the Run' is a three-part medley …" to a separate section below, titled "Composition". But of course, I got stuck trying to find a source or two for that second section …
Just a thought: If you're not able to access the relevant pages in Benitez either, can you score a copy of the book at a local library perhaps? Cheers, JG66 (talk) 15:09, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Listen to What the Man Spelled
[edit]Some very enlightening quotes about Tom Scott. Except "He'd had all the fell on this early take, the first take" doesn't make sense, because of the mis-spelling. It should be "He'd had all the feel on this early take, the first take." And it's wrong in the original 1975 wingspan.ru source. It's been corrected at this (even more obscure) source. Or might it just be easier to correct it in the article? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:50, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Please add blue links to your song articles
[edit]Hey, I've noticed that back in 2014 you added many new songs to the encyclopedia, for bands such as the Kinks. However, when doing so, you forgot to make their links blue or add a link to other pages, such as the disambiguation pages for the song titles that require disambiguation. Here's an example of one that I've fixed: Predictable (The Kinks song) and Predictable. Could you please try to retrace your steps and make the links blue for your song creations? Replaceable fair use File:Jeff Lynne at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park 2014.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Jeff Lynne at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park 2014.jpg.
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
Thank you. matt (talk) 15:54, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Image at A Day in the Life
[edit]Hi Beatleswhobeachboys. I notice you uploaded the 1978 single label at "A Day in the Life". I've just uploaded the US sheet music cover for the song, which I think is more effective as a means of visually identifying the subject of the article. It's also contemporary rather than from a single issued long after the song's original release. I'd like to ditch the Parlophone label, to ensure we're not exhausting the spirit of fair use by including two images, so I thought I'd drop your a line. Not sure how active you are here these days – I'll wait a week or two in case you're back online during that time. Cheers, JG66 (talk) 02:04, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload files. However, it appears that one or more of the files you have uploaded or added to a page, specifically David Robinson (drummer) , may fail our non-free policy. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Who's Next tracks
[edit]A tag has been placed on Template:Who's Next tracks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. I don't mean disrespect, but that's clearly John Dalton and the photo is from this year.
- Regards: The Mad Hatter (talk)
- Hi The Mad Hatter; the source used in the initial inclusion of Dalton (https://www.spin.com/2019/07/the-kinks-recording-new-album-ray-davies-dave-davies/) in the article features deceased bassist Pete Quaife. Nowhere does it mention Dalton or his involvement. Feel free to look up other pictures of Quaife and Dalton but I've seen similar pics from the same event (see this 2017 article: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4498022/The-Kinks-Dave-Davies-feud-brother-Ray.html). Share thoughts WRT Cover sections on songs
[edit]Hey. I hope you don't mind this post, I came across you when I was exploring the talk page of another user. On that talk page, you had posted a section detailing some changes you made to a cover section on the article of a song. Said talk page & discussion can be seen here User_User Talk (Aspects) Is She Really Going Out With Him?
All of the out of the way. I've recently seen some articles where I feel covers are given undue weight in articles about the original song. You appeared to express a similar feeling in that talk page above. What I'm hoping for, perhaps, is some advice or guidance to use an editor that might be help me determine if a cover is given undue weight in an article, or maybe any guidelines from Wikipedia that may support this sort of idea? As far as I can see in the article about style guidelines for song articles, the only mentioning of cover songs is simply listing the minimum criteria for them to be mentioned in an article. There's no real guideline or outline as to how in depth this detailing should, or should not, be.ThereWillBeTime (talk) 23:33, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, glad to hear from you! I agree that it's a tough call to decide just how notable covers are; I'm definitely not averse to giving popular song covers their due (for instance, the Van Halen version of "You Really Got Me" or the Elvis Costello version of "Peace, Love and Understanding") but clunky infoboxes for every random cover, for me, totally disrupts the flow of an article. I'd say the kinda loose criteria I use is:
- 1) Whether there are any significant sources about the background and recording of the cover (as opposed to just chart success)
- 2) How the cover's commercial success compares to the original song
- 3) Whether the information in the rendition's section fills up the space needed to prevent the infoboxes from stacking up in an incomprehensible way.
- The covers on "Is She Really Going Out with Him" had pretty much no background info, were dwarfed in commercial success by the original, and, on a desktop, made the spacing between sections awkward, so I condensed them into one section. I don't know how helpful this is, but I'd say this is how I kinda went about it. Beatleswhobeachboys (talk) 19:45, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- That was a very helpful response :) This is a topic I've been trying to discuss with as many editors as I can. Like I said, outside of the criteria of being mentioned as a cover, I feel like the criteria for the handling of covers in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Songs is basically the wild west / use your best judgement, and another viewpoint to consider is of course appreciated and very valuable. I'll have to go take a look at the state of that article in particular when you edited so I can better appreciate your response here for sure. That being said..I think that's all I got :) Thank you again for the response, and best to you and yours. ThereWillBeTime (talk) 00:30, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Hold Your Head Up - Argent.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Hold Your Head Up - Argent.jpg.
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Debbie Harry - "native" of New Jersey
[edit]Hi there, I just saw you reverted my edit. That's fine if my edit should indeed have been wrong .... but doesn't the word "native" mean that a person was born (from Latin natus = birth) at a certain place (instead of just raised)? Doesn't native correlate to the birth place as given e.g. on the birth certificate or the passport? Just asking, as I'm no English native speaker... Best regards Purzelbier (talk) 08:39, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/native
It seems from Merriam that it can refer either to a person born or raised in a region. Colloquially that's how I understand the term, though maybe rephrasing wouldn't have that ambiguity? Beatleswhobeachboys (talk) 16:54, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link to Merriam-Webster. As far as I understand, those two definitons of the adjective which are specifically applicable to human beings (as opposed to wildlife, agricultural products, feelings, talents etc.) - the definitions No. 2 and 4 - both explicitly have the prerequisite "by birth". So I think that would support my reading of the term "native" = "related by birth". I have no doubt that there is also a broader colloquial usage of the term but I don't think that the colloquial use of a term which in fact has a different lexical meaning would be appopriate for encyclopaedic texts like Wikipedia. I think that rephrasing to remove ambiguity would indeed be a good thing (and that's exactly what I aimed at with my edit from "native" to "raised"...). But I leave it up to you as a native speaker. Given it doesn't matter a whole lot to the meaning of the article, I modified it to the "raised" phrasing you used. I would still contend that, as in the later Merriam definition, native can be applied to individuals raised in or strongly associated with a city, but I don't have a super strong commitment to the wording and this might remove ambiguity as you mentioned. Another Kinks page ...
[edit]Hi there. As the only other editor I have seen who has taken an interest in the Kinks, I thought you may be interested in looking at another article I just created: The Kinks' 1965 US tour. Nothing big to ask here – maybe just a scan for obvious errors or omissions – I just figured you may enjoy reading it. Maybe I'll work it up to GA or FA status eventually. DYK for London's Brilliant Parade
[edit]On 19 March 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article London's Brilliant Parade, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that on his 1994 song "London's Brilliant Parade", Elvis Costello used a Dobro guitar as an homage to the Kinks' "Lola"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/London's Brilliant Parade. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, London's Brilliant Parade), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
