He's clearly notable, but what you wrote was a poorly sourced hagiography, rather than a a neutral encyclopaedia article. When you write about a person

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Much of your text consists of opinions rather than verifiable facts, and doesn't alway confirm the claimed facts. For example, your paragraph David Goodblatt died on September 25, 2019, after being struck by a vehicle during his morning walk. He is survived by his wife Sasona, their children Keren, Michael, and Grace, and granddaughter Logan. Goodblatt was known for his nurturing nature, often sharing moments of warmth and encouragement with his students and colleagues. He left a lasting legacy in both his academic field and his community is sourced to comments made by friends and family on a legacy site. I'd be interested to know why you consider that a reputable, independent third-party source. Also, it doesn't confirm any of the claimed facts in the first sentence, and his character is irrelevant to his notablity. Saying how wonderful he was and attributing to friend and family comments on an obituary page is just flim-flam.

Similarly, your claim His scholarship significantly advanced the understanding of Jewish self-governance and nationalism in antiquity has three sources, none of which is an independent third-party sources, and none of which say what you claim, which would only be an opinion anyway. Everything is renowned, excelled, prestigious and so on.

If you think you can write this with proper sources and verified facts, and without the "He was wonderful" stuff, let me know and I'll sandbox it for you. Incidentally, books don't need references but should have an isbn Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:27, 25 June 2024 (UTC) a similar tone applies throughout, Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources.[reply]

I understand, can you move it to sandbox? Enhazaam (talk) 06:32, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Thank you for your interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption, a special set of rules apply to anyone editing in this topic area. Specifically, only extended confirmed editors are allowed to make direct edits and page creations to this topic area. Since you currently do not meet the requirements to contribute to this topic area, the page you created has been nominated for speedy deletion under G5.

If you think this page does not fall under the general sanctions described, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Additionally you may wish to read about the topic restrictions here. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 17:49, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
