batman forever
Hello,
thanks for your corrections regard my links / information on the UK Version of Batman Returns. However: After your correction there was a mistake in the text (the first censored version is rated bbfc 15, then they released a second version which was less censored and rated bbfc 12 but still released as bbfc 15 due to the bonus material). I tried to correct that mistake. I just wanted to tell you, so that you would not think I would ignore your suggestions.

Inline citations
Just want to let you know that you made a mistake in tagging Standardized testing and its effects as not containing any WP:inline citations.
The bits that say things like "(Kohn 1)" are WP:Parenthetical references, the second most popular form of inline citations on the English Wikipedia.
I've fixed it for you. As a general rule, I've found that whenever an article has a list of citations that spells out the URL inside angle brackets (like <http//:example.com>), then the editor is probably following the MLA citation style quite closely, and it's worth a close look for parenthetical citations. They are most subtle than ref tags. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:02, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to point this out to me, and for fixing my mistake. I'll be more careful in future edits.
- I took another look at the article and believe I've fixed the links in the lead that needed clarification/disambiguation. Please let me know if there's a problem with these changes. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:48, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Wikify tags
Hello Going Batty. I notice you removing Wikify tags that still need work on layout. If you check, wikifying isn't just about wikilinks and fixing typos but also Layout and markup. Many articles that you remove the tags still need to be broken into sections. The AWB tool you use doesn't really give good assessment if an article is sufficiently wikified, it's your responsibility to check yourself each time AWB suggests an action on an article. It's up to you, but maybe you would like to go back through the articles you've wikified and see if they can use sections? Slightsmile (talk) 04:53, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Slightsmile. I'll stop editing now and take a second look at my edits tomorrow. If there are any that need to be broken into sections, I'll add the sections myself or add {{Sections}} to the article. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 05:12, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Reminder for self per MOS:HEAD - "Headings provide an overview in the table of contents and allow readers to navigate through the text more easily." GoingBatty (talk) 18:18, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK, I just reviewed my last 28 edits where I removed the {{wikify}} template. I added {{Sections}} to Bela Vista and Joe Bauman (see below), but the others already had sections or seemed too small for sections. You mentioned "Many articles that you remove the tags still need to be broken into sections." Before I review the other 200+ edits, would you care to comment on any specific edit? Now to respond to your other comment below.... GoingBatty (talk) 04:27, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- I looked at a few yesterday, I don't remember specific ones. I rightly or wrongly extrapolated "many" from the ones I saw that I felt were not wikified. I'm packing it in for today but I'll see if I can get into going through your edits tomorrow (have to be in the mood). Slightsmile (talk) 04:47, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have reviewed each edit from January 12-13 where I removed the {{wikify}} template, and re-edited about 40 articles to add section headers, add {{sections}} and/or other clean-up. If you have any specific concerns about any individual edits, please let me know. Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 00:24, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

I think that's good you going back to them like that. I've gone through a few so far and did some fixing where I could.
- 55th FAMAS Awards - I've never really been sure how to fix articles that are dominated by lists with little or no prose. Those would be good ones to leave on the wikify list - someone out does know what to do. Also dominated by lists - Advance (horse),
- Ampeg V Series - I don't know if it's just me but I don't like "br" page breaks in an article.
- Wazir Ali - Good, except I couldn't figure out what the asterisks beside the scores are for. They're out of place on a wikipedia article and I would have just left it on the wikfy list for someone else to figure out.
- Carl August Ameln - Good, I added two wls.
- American Democracy Project (AASCU initiative) - I did some additional, should be fine now.
- Dan Anderson (sifu) - I don't know about the sub-sections under "Dan Anderson’s credits include", too much.
- Simon Anderson - Hope you don't mind, I think it needs a wikify tag.
- Good : The Amygdaloids, American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum
I'll continue going through them when I can. Slightsmile (talk) 20:13, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. In response to your concerns above, I made the following updates:
- 55th FAMAS Awards already has {{cleanup}} as part of {{Multiple issues}}, so it seems that {{wikify}} would be redundant. I added {{lead too short}} and did a little copyediting.
- The <br /> tags in Ampeg V Series didn't bother me, since they're not visible on the page. However, I removed them and added bullets instead.
- The source of the statistics in Wazir Ali also shows the asterisks without any explanation. I added {{unclear section}} and added a note on the talk page.
- I removed the subsections on Dan Anderson (sifu) and made some other improvements.
- I won't revert your edit to Simon Anderson (or any others that you choose to put the wikify tag back on). Your edit summary brings up an interesting point that articles tagged with {{wikify}} may get updated faster than those with something else.
- Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 22:27, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Removal of tag
Could you advise why you removed the wikify template from Joe Bauman? I tagged it recently as it needs headers and other formatting/layout fixes - none of those changes were made, but the tag was still removed. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 14:51, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Ponyo - AWB's logic for adding/removing {{wikify}} only looks at the number of wikilinks, not other "wikification". The edit summary you used for your edit was "requires wikification - headers, MOSBIO fixes etc". I've added {{sections}} and {{cleanup-biography}} to the article, which hopefully will make it clearer to future editors what should be done on this article. Looking forward to your thoughts on this. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 17:52, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- If that is AWB's "logic", then it needs to be modified as that clearly is not the intent of the wikify template. The template instructions state:
- "Note that although this template is commonly used when a page has no wikilinks, it is not limited to just that. It could also refer to any form of wiki-markup, such as bolding/italicizing of text or formatting standard headings and layout, including the addition of infoboxes and other templates, ie 'wikification'"
- The clean-up tag you replaced the wikify tag with is not correct - it states "This biographical article needs more biographical information on the subject" - which is untrue. I strongly suggest that the wikify tags not be removed solely on the basis of whether the article has wikilinks or not as this is not the only purpose of the wikify tag. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 18:53, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- There was a recently archived discussion on the AWB talk page about the {{wikify}} template, but I'm not aware of any changes to the AWB code. You may wish to start a new discussion or submit a feature request for the AWB developers to consider a suggestion. (I'm not a developer.)
- Template messages "are to foster improvement of the encyclopedia and to notify readers about possible problems." My interpretation of that is that the goal of adding a template is to communicate to other editors what could be done to make an article better.
- I'm sorry that I misinterpreted your edit summary of "MOSBIO fixes etc". If you would like to add {{wikify}} back to this article, I won't remove it. However, I'm concerned that another editor (with or without AWB) may also misinterpret your intent and remove it again without making the changes you want. If you would like to explain what other improvements you think need to be made to Joe Bauman (either here or on Talk:Joe Bauman), maybe together we can find a template that would be more descriptive, or improve the article ourselves?
- Thanks again for taking the time to chat with me. GoingBatty (talk) 03:58, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- If I may weigh in, this is a dialogue I participated in last month on this topic. Slightsmile (talk) 04:09, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing a link to that discussion. I like your comment: "Somebody went through the trouble of placing those tags for a reason." Guess my problem is that it's hard for me to figure out why they added the tags. Therefore, to ensure I'm not making things worse, I'm going to find other edits to make, and let the WP:Wikiproject Wikify members work on the {{wikify}} backlog. Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 04:33, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

William W. Wood
Whatever you were trying to do in your edit to the article on William W. Wood inadvertently messed up the succession box. Please could you have a look at your edit, and try to figure out what you did wrong.
I have reverted the edit, as a messed up succession box is undesirable.
Just out of interest, what were you trying to achieve?--Toddy1 (talk) 21:03, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. While applying some general fixes to new articles, I messed up this article because the succession box was missing the {{s-end}} template. I've redone the edit, and added the template. Thanks for letting me know! GoingBatty (talk) 21:16, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Please could you do the same fix for James Wilson King.--Toddy1 (talk) 21:21, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Done - and I added {{s-end}} before clicking Save this time! I also submitted an AWB feature request to generate an alert when an editor encounters an article with {{s-start}} with no {{s-end}}. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 21:31, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for looking at Jimmy Earl
Dear GoingBatty,
Thanks for looking at Jimmy Earl. It is great to have typos magically corrected. However, it is a shame for anyone to spend their time on an article that is being restructured. I have been "going batty" trying to edit text while dodging clumsy inline references, and consequently, I have begun to put all the references in a block at the end. I hope you will have time to take another look when this process is complete.
I noticed that you unlinked the links to musicians in the discography that have links in the text. The intent here was to make it easy for a person browsing through the article to get some information quickly without wading through a lot of text. Nevertheless, I am aware of the convention to avoid multiple links, and am generally comfortable with what was done.
However, there is one exception. In the text, the link to it:Pino Daniele#Collaborazioni goes to his italian article, which gives a list of his collaborators; in the discography, the link Pino Daniele goes to his English article, which does not list collaborators, but which is more appropriate in an English article. Any comments?
Thanks again for your help. Deer*lake (talk) 19:13, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Deer*lake - thanks for the note.
- I didn't know that you were in the middle of a restructuring. I see you've added a note to that effect since my edit. You might want to use the {{In use}} template instead, as many AWB users (and bots using AWB) will skip articles with this template.
- My edit removed some wikilinks, but not because they were multiple links. One of the general fixes that AWB makes is to delink wikilinks in headings per MOS:HEAD.
- My vote would be to link to Pino Daniele instead of it:Pino Daniele#Collaborazioni. I think it would be more valuable for people who view Jimmy Earl and are interested in getting more information about Daniele to see the English article then to see a list of his collaborators.
- If you'll drop me another note when you're done with your restructuring, I'll be happy to give your article another look. Thanks again, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:15, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your offer to take another look at Jimmy Earl. Whenever you have time, It is finally ready to be looked at. I tried In use and Underconstruction, and will use them in the future, when it is appropriate. I understand now the reasons for keeping links out of headers, and will do so in the future. Once again, thanks for your help. --- Deer*lake (talk) 21:54, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- OK, made a bunch of edits to the article - hope you like them! GoingBatty (talk) 02:46, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- You did a lot of work, which I appreciate. With one exception discussed below, I agree with everything you did. I was sorry to see the first names go, but I realize that they could not survive in the Wikipedia environment. The exception is putting Jimmy Earl in the category Berklee College of Music alumni. Although Berklee takes every opportunity it gets to claim him as an alumnus, he attended for only one year and never graduated. Because it is contrary to the facts to put him in the category, I am inclined to remove that reference. What do you think? Yet again, thanks for your help. -- Deer*lake (talk) 14:45, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- According to the Wikipedia article for "alumnus", some sources define alumni as students who have graduated, while others would also include former students who did not graduate as alumni. Category:Berklee College of Music alumni states "Persons and ensembles in this category have attended at least one semester or summer program at Berklee and have achieved a level of notability in their respective field in the music industry, or other branches of the entertainment industry, or who have gained notability for achievements other than in the field of entertainment." Therefore, I think it is appropriate to include Earl in this category, especially now that you said that Berklee also considers him an alumnus. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 15:46, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- OK. I am happy to leave him in the category. Now, I'm going to let the article "rest" for a few days. Thanks for all your help. Deer*lake (talk) 17:05, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Asterisks on cricket scores...
...mean that the batsman was not out at the end of the innings. It's a fairly standard notation but you're right, (on Wazir Ali), that it shouldn't be used without explanation. - Hi Yobsta - thanks for the feedback. I can see how tagging a page with maintenance templates when it's less than an hour old can be frustrating. I just made one more constructive edit to your new page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 17:36, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- I just noticed that you removed the {{orphan}} template from World Environment Day Awards, even though there are no incoming links to your new article. You may want to introduce links to your page from related articles. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 04:34, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
Be careful of you AWB edits
Although they are fine with me I noticed you were recently doing some edits that could be construed by some as being minor and in violation of the AWB rules of use. For example in this edit you only removed of and this edit where it appears you only removed some white space and casing. I also notice that your edit summeries are very vague and could lead some to complain about that as well. --Kumioko (talk) 14:50, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Kumioko - thanks for the note. You're right - I should have marked both of these as minor edits. I saved the second edit to remove the incorrect commas in the dates. I would not have made the edit if it was only changing whitespace and the casing in the infobox, which would have been a insignificant or inconsequential edit. Remember when we previously discussed generic edit summaries? I'm open to suggestions as to how to make them better. Thanks for the reminder to get me back on track! GoingBatty (talk) 16:51, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Please take a look at Severn Records
Dear Going Batty; You may remember my article Jimmy Earl, which you cleaned up and improved. Now, I have written a new article User:Deer*lake/Severn Records, which I think is about ready to move into article space. I hope you will have time to look it over before this happens. I have not yet put it in any categories, but expect to do so when the article gets its final name. On a completely different subject, in the article Crownsville, Maryland, under Local Schools, there is one listed as "Derek's house of pain". This looks inappropriate to me, but I am not up for policing Wikipedia. You might take a look to see if anything should be done. Thanks for your past and future help. - - Deer*lake (talk) 20:21, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Deer*lake - Hope you like the edits I made on the Severn Records article. I also agree that Derek's House of Pain looked out of place, so I removed it from the Crownsville article. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:56, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your very quick response. I am glad to see that so few changes were needed. I considered the term "fitted out" carefully. It usually has a distinctly nautical connotation, but is often used to describe the furnishing of a specialized facility, which is the applicable use here. Your word "outfitting" can also be used in this context, but its usual connotation involves equipping a person for a specialized job. Nevertheless, I am leaving it in the article, along with all your other changes. I have moved the draft to article space, added categories and linked it to other articles that mention Severn Records. - I have no problem if you want to go back to using "fitted out". Congratulations on your new article! GoingBatty (talk) 21:25, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks again for your help. -- Deer*lake (talk) 19:07, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Good work!
Thanks for all the good work you've been doing on many of my recent documents. Your name seems to be on my log nearly every day. It's good to know that someone will take care of those stupid typos sooner or later. Thanks to people like you, Wikipedia's standards continue to improve. I believe this page may be fake, given the user's outright vandalism of the Peter Goldring page. Suggest deleting the page, seeing if the user challenges same and then calling him or her on it.
Dreadarthur (talk) 05:12, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- The article does have four external links to verify much of the information in the article, so it doesn't seem appropriate to delete it based on vandalism on another page. GoingBatty (talk) 15:03, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Please take a look at The Skunks
Dear Going Batty, I have written another article: User:Deer*lake/The Skunks (ska band). If you get a chance to take a look at, I would appreciate seeing your comments. One point about which I really need your input: I have included external links to Facebook pages. I know than people have to be signed on to Facebook, but think there is a large population that will have no problem accessing the information. Is there a Wiki rule against this? What do you think? I have included no categories, but will add them when the article goes public. Thanks in advance for your help Deer*lake (talk) 21:23, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hello again, Deer*lake! I've made a few changes to your article. For the wiki rule on Facebook links, see WP:FACEBOOK. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:17, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input. I have moved The Skunks (ska band) to Article space, added categories, and corrected some existing links that were intended to refer to the ska band. I liked your use of the "For" template, and to guide people looking for the ska Skunks to the right page, introduced a very similar one into the existing Austin Skunks article. I noticed that you removed my red link to Eastern Standard Time. I think this band deserves its own article, and to encourage someone to write one, made the link red by piping an invalid link to EST. Without this hack, the link would be blue, because it refers to the ordinary meaning of these words. Is this OK? If so, is there a better way to do the same thing? After reading WP:Facebook, I have removed the two external links to Facebook pages. However, in the future, I intend to use Eric Morgan's Facebook album Skunks Flyers as a reference. It shows 33 flyers which document many Skunks performances mentioned in the article. From my reading of the rule, this would be frowned upon, but acceptable. Thanks again for your help. Deer*lake (talk) 22:17, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
- Your original link for Eastern Standard Time was going to xxxyyy, which I deleted. If someone creates an article for the band, it would probably be called Eastern Standard Time (band), so I just added a group for that. I also added one more category. Congratulations on another article! GoingBatty (talk) 23:42, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Candian War
Good going on nixing that Typo rule. I hit a few of those the other day, and got around it by putting "Candian War" in the skip field, so I don't know how many there (I cleared the logs). I have added "Candian" to my own offline list of misspellings to check from time to time, with a note to be careful. Maybe we should have a list of tricky misspellings for AWB users who want to carefully try to fix them with Find & Replace. Happy editing! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris the speller (talk • contribs) 20:02, April 2, 2011
- Thanks Chris. I added the bad rule - sorry it caused you a problem, and that it took so long for me to realize it needed to be reverted. GoingBatty (talk) 00:17, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- No, no, no. It caused me no problem, as I saw what was happening right away. I didn't have to revert any of my own changes, and didn't have to answer any flames from other editors. The rule fixed many actual misspellings, and a heads-up AWB user would probably not damage any articles. Maybe I should have backed out the change, or at least brought it up on the talk page. We won't make progress without trying. Feel happy! Chris the speller yack 01:16, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the fixes to the article. However Alpha Phi Omega in the Phillippines uses the Tagalog term for Hong Kong: Hongkong. See tl:Hongkong. While it may not be appropriate in English, the names themselves of the Alumni Associations are determined by Alpha Phi Omega of the Philippines National Office. I will change them back to Hongkong and put a note to this effect as a <!-- --> note.Naraht (talk) 15:03, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

In a recent edit to the page Microsoft Expression Media, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Fleet Command (talk) 08:15, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note, Fleet Command. In this edit from March, it appears you changed from the article from British to US English, including one instance of "catalogue" → "cataloge" [sic], which is not correct in either variety of English. I should have been more careful and changed it to "catalog" instead of "catalogue". After you changed it back to "cataloge", another user changed it to "catalog". Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:17, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, I did notice that. I intended to delete "ue" but pressed DELETE once instead of twice. But it was not a conversion from British to American as you claim: The article was already (and is) in American English. Please note the use of "-ize" suffix instead of "-ise" (as in "organize" and "categorize") and use of seamless compounds (e.g. "metadata" instead of "meta-data", "slideshow" instead of "slide show", etc.) Now, checking World English Dictionary "Cataloging" is a correct form. (Well, Mozilla Firefox spellchecker also seems okay with it.) Fleet Command (talk) 17:14, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I should have said "you changed some words" (not "you changed the article"). GoingBatty (talk) 17:19, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

I have reverted you a second time here. The National Register misspells the word as "Pavillion", therefore, it must be shown in the NRHP infobox and in
- "It was built in 1920 and added to the National Register of Historic Places as Refreshment Pavillion..."
as it is spelled there, without correction. Thanks, . . Jim - Jameslwoodward (talk to me • contribs) 15:02, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know about the problem. I've added some hidden {{sic}} templates so they won't get corrected again. Should the article be consistent and use "Pavillion" (two ells) everywhere? GoingBatty (talk) 16:07, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- If I remember correctly, we had that discussion some time ago on the NRHP project talk page and decided "no" -- as a general rule NRHP site articles are titled with their official or best known name, and the rule followed above is used only for the infobox and in sentences like the one I quoted. The problem arises a lot with lighthouses, on which I have done a lot of work in the past.
- There is a redirect from Refreshment Pavillion. . Jim - Jameslwoodward (talk to me • contribs) 16:28, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
A technique to simulate multiple Skip fields in AWB
Greetings. I am using my 100,001st edit to congratulate you for being a wild man with AWB (that's meant in the best possible way). BTW, I was also in Order of the Arrow. If you would be so kind as to look over my subpage User:Chris the speller/SkipTrick and tell me what you think. The example shown is for fixing "infact", and its basic improvement could also be done using RegEx "negative lookbehind", but it illustrates the concept of temporary changes to false-positive matches. Since I did that, I created a set of 12 RegEx rules to handle "infront", and it cut through a list of 60 articles like a hot knife through butter. Do you think this technique is worth mentioning in the "Tips and tricks: section of the AWB home page? Chris the speller yack 16:57, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Chris! Good to hear from another Arrowman, especially one who has reached a great editing milestone!
- Your SkipTrick seems pretty cool, but I'm wondering if you could come up with a better example. "infact" → "in fact" could be handled by adding a rule to Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos, which would ignore the URLs. You could also ignore the URLs with: <Find>\s(I|i)nfact\b</Find> → <Replace> $1n fact</Replace>
- I can't think of a better example right now, but I'll try to keep it in mind while editing. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 17:47, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
- The subpage now has a real-life example for fixing "infront". I put "superbike" in the real Skip field, so this is like having another 11 Skip fields. If you have an XML editor (such as the foxe editor from firstobject.com), you can get the XML code from an invisible comment on that subpage and splice it into your own settings file. Set AWB to build a list based on a Wiki search on "infront" (with the double quotes). Filtering for content pages gives 61 pages. With these rules (and no "Ignore" boxes checked), it only stops on "AFL Players Association". I could have tuned that one out as well, but it's nice to see it stop so you can tell it's actually working. I fixed all real cases if "infront" this morning, so you won't get to make a real change, at least until the index gets updated. Chris the speller yack 19:48, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Wildlife Conservation
Hi, my name is Sam. I am an undergraduate student at Syracuse University taking a class on Transnational Non-Government Organizations and US public policy. Our class is working with the Wikipedia Ambassador Program to help improve certain articles on Wikipedia that pertain to TNGOs and US public policy. I created a section in the Wildlife Conservation article that I see you are very active with. I know it is unsubstantial, however over the next few weeks I plan to add a significant amount of information that will benefit the community interested in wildlife conservation. I now ask for your help and cooperation with my project. Thank you for your time and consideration. Smfunk7 (talk) 17:02, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Your recent edits regarding "cleanup"/"fixes" to Wikipedia:Albums articles involve wikilinking Billboard to Billboard (magazine). I have written to you previously in relation to what courses of action are available with respect to a supposed contributor who vandalizes the page of a Member of Parliament (Peter Goldring). He has now vandalized my own editor profile, which I choose to remain unparticularized. I still believe his only contribution to Wikipedia, on a certain Harold Graziano, will turn out to be bogus, with the third party references being similarly so found.
I believe this person should be banned from further Wikipedia contributions and don't know how to go about effecting this. I have no interest in continuing here if I constantly have to watch to see who is doing some slice and dice on my own profile.
Suggestions or action appreciatied. I am contacting you because you were the editor on this person's alleged Graziano profile.
Nobody should have to put up with small trash like this. Sorry to be so emotive.
Dreadarthur (talk) 03:34, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Plus, if you go to Harold Graziano, you will see that there is another questionable editor, User:Dawnsimpson, whose only supposed contribution is Harold Graziano and whose presence conveniently prevents speedy deletion of the article, based on more than one alleged contributor. I suggest checking out this contributor, in addition to any relationship to Beeeflsgoood. It is garbage like this that drives people away from contributing to Wikipedia. This is supposed to be a serious attempt to collectively contribute to knowledge.
Dreadarthur (talk) 03:43, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Dreadarthur - sorry you're having another problem with BeeefIsGoood. The only edits this person has made is creating the Harold Graziano page and the two other edits you mentioned. I suggest you read Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism, and follow the link to the dispute resolution page. One act of vandalism doesn't get a person banned. (The edit to your user page may have been a poor attempt to repsond to the first message you left on their talk page - they might not know the difference between a talk page and a user page.) Hopefully this editor won't bother you again.
- The funny thing about the Harold Graziano page is that BeeefIsGoood not only created the page but also requested it be deleted! It's possible that BeeefIsGoood and Dawnsimpson are the same person, since their only real edits are to the Graziano page, but it's possible that they're two different people. If you want to pursue the deletion of the Graziano page, I suggest you read Wikipedia:Notability (people) and the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion process.
- Good luck, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:13, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

List of train songs
Hi, GoingBatty! Thanks for disambigging the artists I recently added to the train song list. I'm fairly meticulous about such things, but apparently was trying to do too much in too short a time. The path I'm on is to 1) assess the notability of entries, 2) consolidate the listings so that each song only appears one time, 3) add more artists per song and 4) provide citations for all listings. I realize that's ambitious, but I recently did this with the List of artists who have covered Bob Dylan songs, which is of similar length, had citations for a quarter or so of its entries and now is almost completely referenced. Nevertheless, as you noted, the list does need a lot of help. Do you have any specific suggestions regarding that? I'd appreciate any feedback you can give that would help in improving the article. I'll be watching for a reply. Thanks. Allreet (talk) 15:16, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Allreet - sorry my edit summary wasn't clear. If you look at my edit, you'll see that I was not able to disambiguate the link for Norman Blake, so I added a {{dn}} next to it. Hope you'll be able to fix this wikilink. Good luck with the article! GoingBatty (talk) 23:33, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Why isn't anybody responding on my talk page?
Hello, GoingBatty, since you were an editor on the article that i created (Terraforming of Europa (moon)), I'm responding to you why nobody has welcomed me to Wikipedia yet. If nobody does it within 2 hours, can you do it yourself? Thank you!-- SpaceChimp1992 (talk) 17:23, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like someone beat me to officially welcoming you to Wikipedia, but welcome, and congratulations on your new article! GoingBatty (talk) 23:04, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

- Hey, I'd like your advice. I know that you think my article, Terraforming of Europa (moon), is impressive, and recently I've been thinking of working on an article about Mercury's magnetic field, but the Internet closed down before I could publish my works. Since you're such a great editor and all, do you think I should create the article? I'm afraid it could get deleted. SpaceChimp1992 (talk) 22:17, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi SpaceChimp! I'm presuming that your concern is that you don't want to invest a lot of time in an article and then have it deleted. My suggestion would be to post on Talk:Mercury (planet) (or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Solar System) with your idea for your article, explaining how your article would be different than just restating what's already on Mercury (planet)#Magnetic field and magnetosphere, and see what the response is. You could also create your article as a userspace draft and invite people to review and improve it before promoting it as an article. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 22:50, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, I've already created the article! Want to help with it? (I'm working on expanding the article, adding some more sections, etc.) I'll give you a cookie! SpaceChimp1992 (talk) 23:06, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Made a few minor changes to the article, as you requested. I also started the discussion page, so people from WikiProject Solar System and Astronomy can contribute too. Congratulations on another article! GoingBatty (talk) 22:21, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Talk page for Terraforming of Europa (moon)
Hey, GoingBatty, how's it going? I was just wondering if you can create a talk page for Terraforming of Europa (moon), since it's older than my most recent article, Mercury's magnetic field (which has a talk page), and yet it doesn't have a talk page. Thanks! --SpaceChimp1992 (talk) 21:11, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Done - I just copied the WikiProject templates from Talk:Mercury's magnetic field to Talk:Terraforming of Europa (moon). GoingBatty (talk) 22:05, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, GoingBatty! It's been some time since we haven't talked. Can you believe that my article Mercury's magnetic field is newer than my other article Terraforming of Europa (moon) and yet it has more references (24 to 23)? Anyways, I would like you to inform the WikiProject Solar System about some coverage and ratings about both articles, since I'm busy expanding Saturn to 135 references (like Jupiter) and working on an article for Claude from GTA III. Thank you! --SpaceChimp1992 (talk) 23:26, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Congratulations on the work you're doing on these articles. I already informed WikiProject Solar System about your articles by adding {{WikiProject Solar System|class=|importance=}} to Talk:Mercury's magnetic field and Talk:Terraforming of Europa (moon). Adding this template puts your articles into Category:Unassessed Solar System articles, which you can see at the bottom of the talk pages. This informs the assessment department of WikiProject Solar System that there are new articles to be assessed. You may have to be patient, as there are 50 other articles to be assessed, dating back to December 2010. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:15, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, GoingBatty! Are you an avid player of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? It is one of my favorite videogames! But several things and places in the game are quite spooky. An example is Back O' Beyond (south of San Fierro), shaped like a big foot, which has been the centre of many myths in San Andreas, including Bigfoot (the proof of this cryptid has been faked or a mod, though) (and did you know that Bigfoot is the nickname of a Rockstar employee?) and 1950s beat-up ghost cars. Another example is the half-mile Mount Chiliad, which also has ghostcars that are completing the course of the Chiliad challenge, and blood red fog that rarely appears when it commonly rains near the mountain. The final mysteries are a suicidal photographer near Flint Intersection that takes a photo of the Los Santos skyline and randomly drowns (only to be replaced by another similar-looking pedestrian), falling pedestrians (in Las Venturas, though the people are either committing suicide or have fallen by accident), bodybags in a mass grave of dead people in Bone County, and blue hell (though it was probably a graphic mistake). — Preceding unsigned comment added by SpaceChimp1992 (talk • contribs) 18:20, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Categorizing
Just a quick request: when you're adding categories to articles in the Category:Articles needing additional categories queue, please be aware that HotCat doesn't automatically remove the {{catimprove}} tag — so as much as possible you should remove it manually when you add the categories, so that the page doesn't keep cluttering up the queue anyway. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 05:02, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Bearcat. When I tried to add categories to those articles, there were several times when I manually removed the {{cat improve}} template (e.g. [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]). However, there were several other articles where I only felt comfortable adding one or more categories and wanted another editor to see if they could add more. I hope you were able to better categorize those articles. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 05:12, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- For example, here's an example where I added four categories, but didn't think it was enough, and another editor kindly added some more. I think it's less likely it would have happened had I removed the {{cat improve}} template. GoingBatty (talk) 05:20, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Even better, I see some edits where you were able to better categorize an article than I, such as [10] and [11]. That's exactly what I wanted to happen, which is why I left the {{cat improve}} template. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 05:35, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Well, the thing is I also found some where you had added more than enough categories that the tag was no longer necessary, but left the tag anyway (frex, Anthony Ernest Pratt, Sylvester Lopez, Charlie Hill.)
- I realize it can be kind of subjective, but for what it's worth I tend to take a pretty narrow interpretation of whether an article needs additional categories — especially given that it's a queue which backlogs really badly because few people pay any attention to it, I tend to be of the view that the tag should be used a lot less than it is. For example, if a person is only in birth year/death year/living people categories, then the tag is necessary, because the person still hasn't been added to even the basic category for whatever it is that makes them notable enough to have an article in the first place — but if they're in lifespan categories and, say, Category:American artists, then the tag isn't necessary, because while other categories (hometown, university they attended, particular type of art they do, awards, etc.) are still possible, they're not "needed", in the sense of obligation, critically enough that they specifically require dedicated attention from the categorization project. YMMV, I know — but some people do genuinely seem to think we're after a magic number of categories, below which an article should be tagged whether any others are really necessary or not, when in reality one category can be enough depending on the context. Bearcat (talk) 05:39, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- I think that's the distinction I was missing. So while I thought it was possible for another editor to add more categories to Anthony Ernest Pratt (World War II and/or British Civil Service categories?), Sylvester Lopez (hometown?), Charlie Hill (Native American tribe categories?), the categories I added were sufficent enough to remove each article from the backlog. Thanks for the further explanation! GoingBatty (talk) 05:48, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Just removed two more from the backlog - happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 06:01, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Process for adding approved image?

disambiguation bullseye/fisheye
I thing bullseye lens and a fisheye lens are totally different things, unlike what you disambiguated here and here (well, probably more, but these are the ones on my watchlist). The purpose is very different and the structure has no similarity. You can see how a bullseye lens looks like here for example, that's the two bullseyes showing on the front. This is a fisheye lens. I will correct these two of course, but I'd appreciate it if you go back and see if there are more of them. --Muhandes (talk) 07:42, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wow - I see I totally misunderstood the relationship between the Bullseye and Fisheye disambiguation pages! Thanks for cleaning up my mess. I reviewed my other disambiguations, and you caught the only two that were about bullseye lenses. Sorry about the problem! GoingBatty (talk) 23:02, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

David B. Mitchell Article Assessment
I noticed that you removed the Stub assessment for the David B. Mitchell (police chief) despite few changes to the article since its creation and original assessment in September, 2008. I respectfully disagree with your action, and have submitted a request at the WikiProject Biography Assessment page for the article to be re-assessed by a impartial third party. --TommyBoy (talk) 23:58, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi TommyBoy. I removed the Stub assessment from the article because the article did not have (and has never had) any stub templates. Upon further examination of the article, I realize that you (and the initial assessment) are correct. Therefore, I have re-added the Stub assessment on Talk:David B. Mitchell (police chief) and added {{US-bio-stub}} (and made other improvements) to the article. Thank you for letting me know about this issue. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:36, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

"Ain't She Sweet" category question
Hi, I noticed you had removed the WikiProjects Song category info from the "Ain't She Sweet" article and replaced it with WikiProjectsBeatles. Is there a particular reason it can't be in both? "Ain't She Sweet" has had a long history before the Beatles great recording and since, so it's not totally identified with them by any means. I'd like to add the WikiProjects Song info back to this and keep both.
Thanks. Contributingfactor (talk) 12:40, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Contributingfactor! I agree that "Ain't She Sweet" should be included in both WikiProject Beatles AND WikiProject Songs. I apologize that my edit summary for this edit wasn't clear. By using the
|song=yes
parameter in {{WikiProject The Beatles}}, it adds the page to Category:WikiProject Songs articles. The text on Talk:Ain't She Sweet states "This article is within the scope of WikiProject Songs, an attempt to build a comprehensive and detailed guide to songs on Wikipedia." The only reason I removed the {{songs}} template is that it duplicated the functionality of the WikiProject Beatles template. Hope this is more clear. Happy editing! Clicking "Skip" in AWB
I didn't want to take the "is is" discussion off track, but there are reasons to click "Skip" sometimes. I lost nearly a half hour yesterday when I carelessly tried to make a manual fix to an article before I noticed that it had over 40,000 words. AWB spun away for a long time (I think this is actually a bug), and I didn't want to rip AWB out forcibly, as I had a number of tweaks to my settings file that I didn't want to lose. I generally don't make manual changes if the article is more than about 3,000 words, or if the title is "List of ....", when AWB's word count is generally not reliable. I also sometimes don't make manual changes if a number of Find & Replace rule changes have been added to the edit summary and Typos makes an inappropriate action, since manual editing clears out the edit summary. I might unclick "Enable Regex TypoFix" and press the "Start" button again to perform just the F&R function; I might or might not follow up by manually editing the article. I'm sure that there are lots of good AWB users who have their own styles and their own sets of criteria for how much manual editing they do. Is your experience with manual changes to huge articles with AWB different? Chris the speller yack 17:23, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Chris - thanks for the note. When I made my comment, I was thinking of only the specific example of what to do when RegExTypoFixer suggests the wrong correction for "is is". I'd rather AWB suggest a wrong correction that I can fix manually instead of not alerting me to the problem at all. I haven't noticed issues with AWB related to article size. Sometimes AWB wants to refresh instead of save my edits. Usually I just go to another article on my list and come back to the original article later. If I make manual changes after the typos are fixed and general fixes are suggested, I pick from a variety of saved edit summaries, such as "Typo fixing, general fixes, and other clean up". But you're right (as usual) - it's OK for everyone to have their own way of using AWB, as long as they follow the rules of use. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:28, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- I was baffled that a heavy AWB user such as you hasn't hit the problem of AWB spinning on a very large page, but I did some more investigation, and found that the problem occurs with very large pages, such as "List of Deadliest Warrior episodes", if I have a large list (several hundred) of F&R rules, especially if AWB has been running for a while and has processed a number of pages. It seems to keep something in memory (maybe the logs of changed and skipped pages). In this case, it used 100% of one of my duo CPUs for 1/2 hour before I could stop it. I generally agree that I'd rather AWB suggest a wrong correction, as I can always handle it as I described above, or ignore it, depending on what I'm trying to get done. I have already read your excellent subpage about why you don't have AWB add all changes to the edit summary. I do have changes added to the summary, as I think it helps other editors, and it certainly helps me to review what I was doing when I view my "User contributions". If I make a manual change as well, the F&R and Typo changes get dropped from the summary anyway. When AWB balks at saving my edits (it's actually WP that balks, and AWB that times out), I also go to the next article and come back later, or switch to Firefox and make the change completely manually. But it's best to wait about 5 minutes before using Firefox, as WP is sometimes hanging fire on the save. I have sometimes had it finish the AWB save about 4 or 5 minutes later, wiping out what I did in Firefox (if those changes were more extensive than the original AWB changes). If you pick edit summaries from the saved list, you have to do that, then click "Start", then restore the usual edit summary, then make the manual changes; otherwise, the selected edit summary will be used on the next article, not the one you were working on. I screwed up quite a few before I figured that out. Happy editing! Chris the speller yack 01:36, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- This edit to List of Deadliest Warrior episodes took seven seconds to save. I only have 80 F&R rules, and maybe half of them are turned on at any one time. What subpage are you referring to? If you look at my contributions, you'll see that I usually have AWB set to show all changes in the edit summary. However, when I make a manual edit, I then choose a generic edit summary. I also use IE7 instead of Firefox. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 04:27, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't get right back to you because I'm still trying to figure who the heck had the subpage that described the reasons that they did not check the box "Add replacements to edit summary".
Ambassador program
Just a heads up! Before performing manual edits on articles, please make sure each one is not a student article. As in the American Gas Association article, edits were made that usurped the relationship of the Ambassador program and the Political Participation course at Southern Connecticut State University. When the student is learning to identify and address various editing issues, it is important to allow them the time to work with the professor and the designed course. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 11:08, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Cindy! Thanks for the feedback and sorry for accidentally causing a problem. How do you suggest Wikipedia editors distingush student articles from regular articles? GoingBatty (talk) 16:51, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- One option seems to be including {{WAP assignment}} on the article. You might even want to consider adding text to the WAP template encouraging other people not to edit the article, such as the wording on {{GOCEinuse}}. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 03:29, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- That's a good idea! The WAP template is located at the top of the talkpage. The only time we tend to jump in is when copyvios are added or the student fails to act or respond to instructions about sourcing. Generally after the semester ends, we all jump in mass to assess, revise, and delete articles when necessary. I think we should probably consider revising the template as per your suggestion. Thanks and Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 04:43, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Preserving integrity of quotes
Hello! I'm not familiar with AWB, but if there is a way to avoid changing word contractions (like didn't → did not
) when they are used within quotes, references or templates, I think it would be best to use it. That way the integrity of the quote or original work cited is preserved. I partially reverted this change. Keep up the good work! Cheers, — CharlieEchoTango — 04:03, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for catching my mistake and letting me know. Changing the word contractions is not standard AWB functionality - it's a customized find & replace rule I have set up. My goal is not to change quotes and references, but in this case I messed up. Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 04:09, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Here's another one [12].I don't really mind you stalking my contributions for AWB fixes (I guess it's a good way to find a list of articles) but I have to say my watchlist is getting spammed at an unseen before rate. :P Keep up the good work. "Weird Al" Yankovic in 3-D
Hi. You asked for someone to look over your copy edit and, as the best editors, like Diannaa, the Utahraptor and Chaosdruid seem to be busy IRL, I've done what I can for you. First, what you did in the article was all good and you definitely improved it. There were a few points where you could have done more and, as these are rather common generally on WP, here's a list:
- In MDY date format, where you have a comma before the year, the year itself is considered parenthetical, so you must have a punctuation mark after it, thus: "On October 20, 2011, Muammar Gaddafi died".
- For the position of punctuation marks relative to quotation marks, there's MOS:LQ. The most common error in this article was to put a comma inside a song title, like this: "Eat It," ...
- In popular music articles, we often find expressions like "the song" or "the album" where "it" would be enough. When this is overdone, it's really clunky. (It also happens a lot in film articles.)
I've been through the article and made some improvements (hopefully). Here's the diff. Please do say if you want me to explain anything I did. Best regards, Simon. --Stfg (talk) 20:51, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Stfg! Thanks for reviewing my edits (or, more precisely, what I didn't edit) and for taking the time to provide some guidance for me. I didn't want anyone to think that the edits I made to the article were a complete copyedit job. Your edit made it clear that there was a long way still to go. I look forward to studying your edit and the section in the MOS, which will help me do a better job when editing in the future. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:54, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi and Thank You for your help! I hope you enjoy the Barnstar. I have a question for you. When I am trying to edit and try to Wikify, my Wikify (Internal Link) will not work and I can not Wikify anymore? When you have the time please get back to me, maybe you have a answer. Thanks! - Hi Chico 9 - I'll be happy to try to help. Where do you see "Wikify (Internal Link)"? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:17, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hello GoingBatty and Thank you for your reply! Here is a example of my issue... On the James Chico Hernandez project/page, I am trying to Wikify the quotes("") in this... He registered an empty net goal on December 8, 1979 against Wheaton College (Illinois) in a 4-2 win at the Saint Spectrum Ice Arena in Bridgeview, Illinois. He accomplishes a Gordie Howe hat trick by scoring a goal, getting an assist, and getting in a fight, all in the same game playing on February 8, 1980 against Wheaton College (Illinois) at the All Season Ice Rinks in Naperville, Illinois. For some reason; I cannot use the tool bar above and wonder if it is something in the hardware? When you get a chance please take a look at this and make any corrections. Thank You for your help once again and contributions for this project so I can at least get it up to a B standard quality page.Chico 9 (talk) 20:18, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Chico - I was able to do the following:
- Click edit
- Highlight empty net goal
- Click on the Link button (the one that looks like chains)
- When the new window opened up, click Insert Link
- Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each link to be added
- Click the Show Preview button (to make sure I did everything properly)
- Click the Save Changes button
- If you can't use the toolbar, you can always just enter the [[ and ]] brackets manually. I'm using Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP. What are you using? What happens for you when you try to use the toolbar? Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:22, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi GoingBatty, Thanks again for your imput and help! I still need your assistance on the Clean-up of this article (bare URLs for citations and adding full citations) so that the article remains verifiable in the future. I am having trouble using the templates and the Reflinks tool to assist in formatting. I also have a question as to references that are on line? As you know these are only as good as somebody is paying their bills to keep them on line or the owner of the page decides to discard and the ramifications this action is either a dead link or no on- line reference. When You get a chance I would really appreciate your magic to remedy James Chico Hernandez page. Thanks again!Chico 9 (talk) 09:43, 19 October 2011 (UTC) PS I feel that your technical know how is way beyond my range to fix the page and I would feel bad if I somehow ruin it.
- Hi Chico - I've run Reflinks several times against the James Chico Hernandez article (preferring to do it in small doses after having my browser shut down when trying to run it for all the links at once. There are many times when Reflinks can't find the article title, and therefore doesn't fill in the citation template. There are other tools to try to get archived web pages when the original page disappears. We'll see what additional help I can provide in the next few weeks, but you can do it too - see {{cite web}}. Good luck!
Hi GoingBatty, I did the update brackets manually and Thanks again for all of your help! Please help when you can because I can surely use your help to complete the James Chico Hernandez page. I will examine {{cite web}} and try to improve as well! Thanks!
- Hi Chico - I'll try some more edits with the article once real life gets back to normal. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:47, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Martin Lewis article
Hi. You may have seen that I responded to the various postings on the topic of the Martin Lewis article/disambiguation. You were apparently accused of being a sock puppet for me. I'm sorry that such a foolish thing was uttered. But after many years on Wikipedia I'm used to such nonsense.
I noticed that no sooner had I moved back the Martin Lewis article to the primary status that it has had for many years than the editor called Orat Perman moved it back. And then his very next edit was to remove references to Lewis being a Beatles scholar! I note that you're on the Beatles wiki project so you are probably aware of Lewis's status in that world. I see that Davidpatrick, who is another editor who works on the Martin Lewis article, ended up putting a load more references to attest to Lewis' status. A bit needless really! It's not as though Lewis' work in the Beatles world is a secret.
It got me to wondering why anyone would remove factual text about someone so well known. I decided to do a couple of minutes sleuthing about the editor. I discovered that just a few days ago he had removed the category "People Associated with the Beatles" which was clearly wrong to do. It was in fact you who reinstated that. If you go back and look over his wiki history you discover that he is a very sporadic editor but he has popped up every couple of years with fairly spurious challenges about Lewis. His first-ever edit in June 2007 was to challenge that Lewis was a Beatles scholar. After many years on Wikipedia one gets used to identifying patterns of behavior. There is a clear indication of an animus for whatever reason about Lewis from this editor.
The voluminous amounts of sources on Lewis's activities over nearly 40 years attest to a notability and prominence over the others of that name. Which is why it has been the primary article for so many years. The only other person of that name with any prominence is a financial journalist known in only one country (the UK) on the niche topic of personal finance. That is not remotely comparable to the prominence and notability of the other Lewis. If this hadn't been discussed on the COI noticeboard, I'd "Be Bold" and move it back to its long-prevailing status immediately as I think the merits of the matter are obvious as evidenced by the multiple sources. But I'll wait for a day or so and see what if anything more transpires. Thanks for your time! 23skidoo (talk) 03:43, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi 23skidoo - thanks for the personal response. Only today did I notice that we edited Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard/Archive 53 (which has a warning not to edit the archive) - oops! What's the proper way to clean that up?
- In regards to Martin Lewis, he's definitely well known as a Beatles authority. Orat did not provide any basis for removing the category in the edit summary, so I did revert the edit. I'm not going to get in the battle over the article titles (although "humorist" does not seem to be an accurate summary of what Lewis is best known for.) Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 02:45, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi GoingBatty (great user-name BTW!). Sorry for the delay in replying – real-life workload and I’ve been under the weather. Several points to cover. In regard to us both posting on a page that apparently had been archived - that's an inadvertent error at worst. No harm done. I think it's acceptable to leave be (plus we were both replying to comments made about us so I think it was fair we responded for the record). In unlikely event a query is raised - it's easy to explain as an innocent mistake.
- In regard to Orat's editing - I always start out with Assume Good Faith. But it would be myopic of us to ignore repeated patterns of behaviour. If you do the research, you will see this editor has made similar edits several times on this article over a 4-year period. Challenging Lewis' status as a Beatles authority despite the abundant sourced and cited evidence. Speaking as an Admin with a fairly long history, when one observes a pattern of negative editing (deletions) that totally ignore the sources, one becomes, at the very least, sensitive that there might be an agenda or animus propelling the editor. And one weighs that person's next actions accordingly. So if there is another action by Orat on this article, as an Admin it would be negligent to ignore the editor's pattern of unwarranted negative actions against the article. You said it best: "Orat did not provide any basis for removing the category in the edit summary". When one encounters repeated behavior of groundless actions against the same article - especially if the actions are not only groundless but clearly ignore the cited sources - then one has to take that into account.
- As to the original issue, I agree totally with you that the word "humorist" is not an accurate descriptive of Lewis. The trouble is neither is "Beatles authority" or "producer" or "writer" or "marketing strategist". If you look at the sources, this guy clearly satisfies both notability and "eminence" criteria. Aside from the Beatles stuff, he was one of the creators & producers of the Secret Policeman's Balls (which has been acknowledged by the likes of Sting, Bono and Bob Geldof as being an inspiration for later global events like Live Aid). He's also a regular on TV such as Bill Maher's show, and has been involved in a lot of high-profile international marketing campaigns (I'm talking Best Picture Oscar-winners), has won awards for same -- I could go on but the article is there to read.
- A word that describes the breadth and diversity of his activities is "polymath", though that would be a bizarre descriptive on Wikipedia because though it's accurate, in actuality his notability is in each of several spheres - ie some know of him as a Beatles authority and some know of him as a producer, some as a writer for Time Magazine etc etc. But few would think of him as a "polymath". In any event, based on the criteria Wikipedia itself sets out, the article about him is eligible to be the primary article of that name - unless there is another person of the same name with a greater or equally prominent worldwide profile.
- Of the other Martin Lewises the only one that has any profile of note is the UK financial journalist, and if you read that article you will see that his notability is on one niche topic and solely in the UK. Once I kick this illness I have, I plan to return and put the ML article back where it has been for many years and let the chips fall where they may. After re-reading the Wikipedia rules, I'm confident I'm in the right on this. Cheers! 23skidoo (talk) 14:33, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

King Arthur RPG
Please don't modify URLS to remove the "www" when present - the two urls are distinct -please see Template_talk:URL#Exclusion_of_prefix_is_technically_and_in_some_cases_practically_wrong for more details. Imgaril (talk) 07:10, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Imgaril! Thanks for making me aware of that discussion - I've added my comment there. I thought I read somewhere that it was improper to use "www." in the
|work=
parameter, but since I can't find that now, I'll stop removing the "www." until I can find it again. - I just checked the web sites referenced in King Arthur: The Role-playing Wargame, and each of them works the same with or without the "www." prefix. In regards to your edit to the article, could you please let me know why you reverted "RAM" back to "RAM Memory"? Since "RAM" stands for "Random-Access Memory", "RAM Memory" means "Random-Access Memory Memory". Fixing this tautology was my primary goal in editing this article. Thanks! AWB Question
I noticed you doing some changes to the rename template parameters page. I think it would be better and more efficient to add some of those typos and changes to the typos list rather than the parameter rename page. For example I think we should write some regex to lowercase the parameters rather than list them all out individually. What do you think. That itself would trim out about 50 from this list. --Kumioko (talk) 19:00, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Kumioko! Good idea, but WP:AWB/T states "typo-fixing is automatically prevented on image names, templates, wikilink targets and quotes" (emphasis added). GoingBatty (talk) 19:08, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- Oh ok thanks, well there went that idea. --Kumioko (talk) 19:09, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
- Actually it is worse than that, there are a fair number of (mostly old) templates that use naming conventions we wouldn't allow now. Some of these I would have addressed but a bunch of people have set out to make my on-wiki life as hard as possible, or so it seems. Rich Farmbrough, 23:15, 2 December 2011 (UTC).
- Yeah for a community of people who want to try and build an encyclopedia there are an awful lot of folks that don't wanna do edits and then critizcize those who do. --Kumioko (talk) 01:16, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

- Sorry my edit summary wasn't clear. While AWB has many fixes it suggests, there is always the opportunity for manual editing before saving the edit. When I use the fixes it suggests, my edit summary contains "general fixes" and/or "typo fixing". When I make my own edits within AWB, I use an edit summary that says "clean up". I'll change my edit summaries to say "manual clean up" instead, which will hopefully provide more clarity. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:42, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Catgories and sub-categories
Hi GoingBatty!
This refers to our discussion on my Talk page last week.
I'm no longer convinced that it make sense to delete a category just because a sub-category is also listed in the article. Take, for example, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. If someone clicks on Category:Performers of Sufi music, that should pull up his name. The fact that a subcategory of this, Category:Pakistani qawwali singers, also appears in his article doesn't change that.
In my view, the usefulness of Category:Performers of Sufi music is diminished if the name of one of the most renowned Sufi singers doesn't appear in it.
Your thoughts, please?
Thanks!--Sarabseth (talk) 11:19, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Sarabseth! The Wikipedia:Categorization guideline states "Each article should be placed in all of the most specific categories to which it logically belongs. This means that if a page belongs to a subcategory of C (or a subcategory of a subcategory of C, and so on) then it is not normally placed directly into C."
- Because Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan contains Category:Pakistani qawwali singers, it is redundant to also put him in the parent categories of Category:Performers of Sufi music, Category:Qawwali, and Category:Sufi music, which is why I removed those categories from the article. However, if you think that Category:Pakistani qawwali singers is a non-diffusing subcategory and the article belongs in both Category:Pakistani qawwali singers and Category:Performers of Sufi music, I will leave this to your discretion. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:17, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand the concept of Wikipedia:Categorization#Non-diffusing subcategories, but Category:Pakistani qawwali singers doesn't seem to qualify.
- I'm just trying to apply common sense here, though. It seems to me that when a reader clicks on Category:Performers of Sufi music, that should pull up a list of the performers who are regarded as the leading exponents of this music. If it doesn't, then the WP guidelines may be hurting rather than helping?
- So, if you don't have objections, I would like to restore Category:Performers of Sufi music (but not Category:Sufi music or Category:Qawwali).
- Thanks! --Sarabseth (talk) 13:37, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi GoingBatty!
- When I said "if you don't have objections...", I was waiting for a response, either way.
- Thanks! --Sarabseth (talk) 11:40, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry I misinterpreted your last post. I see you restored all of the categories on December 13. I know nothing about Sufi music, so I will defer to your expertise in this area. I won't object if you keep Category:Performers of Sufi music, and remove Category:Sufi music and Category:Qawwali. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:41, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- I just made some edits to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan unrelated to categorization for fixing a link to a disambiguation page and fixing references. There's one more link on the page to be disambiguated (or possibly removed). It would also be nice to have one consistent date format in the article, but I didn't know what format you wanted to use. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:57, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! --Sarabseth (talk) 11:40, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, sorry about that; not well-worded by me at all! I had already made that change before it occurred to me to discuss it here. I was trying to reach agreement on what the final resolution should be. Will go ahead and keep Category:Performers of Sufi music, and remove Category:Sufi music and Category:Qawwali. --Sarabseth (talk) 10:52, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
Chad Warrix
How the HELL did you not notice that Sodium linked to the metal, and not to say, oh, a band? Typical n00b mistake. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 04:46, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I had only been an editor for about six months when I used Dab solver to fix many of the links on Chad Warrix. Links that go to the wrong article are hard to spot, although I specifically went looking for articles that linked to Billboard instead of Billboard when I made this edit.
- Being civil in your talk page conversations and edit summaries will go a long way to encouraging n00bs to learn from their mistakes and develop into the Senior Editors of the future.
- Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 17:54, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- You're right, I was a little testy there. My apologies. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 17:58, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Zac Moncrief and Montvale
Does this source for Zac Moncrief support his residence in Montvale, New Jersey? Pascack Hills High School students also come from Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey? I haven't been able to find a source that supports either Montvale or Woodcliff Lake for Moncrief, but I'm not sure that this source settles it either way. Alansohn (talk) 02:32, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
- PHHS students came from Montvale, Woodcliff Lake, and Hillsdale, New Jersey, so you're absolutely right. I just added a different reference that specifically says "Zac grew up in Montvale". Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:49, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the updated sources for both Bash and Moncrief. I'm not sure why I couldn't find those sources myself, but excellent research work on your part. Alansohn (talk) 03:09, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
- Google is a wonderful thing, also it takes a while to weed out those articles that are referencing Wikipedia. I actually copied the Moncrief citation from User:SuperFlash101/PaF crew. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:18, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

regex question
Greetings, I hope you don't mind me asking but you seem to be good at Regex and I admit I am stuck on a couple problems and could use some help if you don't mind. My first is relatively easy I think. As an example I would like to take something that looks like:
}}}} and make it look like:
}}
}}
I can do most of this in regex but I can't figure out what qualifier to use to make a line break like that.
My second question is in eliminating duplicate parameters from a template. Using my bot I have been able to convert many of the US related projects that are supported by WPUS into the WPUS banner. One sideffect is that in some cases, for several different reasons, I have ended up with some banners having multiples of the same parameter like this for example: {{WikiProject United States|class=|importance=|DC=Yes|DC-importance=|DC=Yes|DC-importance=}}
and I would like to eliminate the redundant parameter.
Would you know how to do that? The only way I can figure this out is requiring me to right a whole bunch of rules to filter them out and I was hoping there might be an easier way. It doesn't need to be perfect but any help would be greatly appreciated. --Kumioko (talk) 04:02, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Kumiko - Don't mind at all! For the first, try replacing
}}}}
with}}\n}}
- For the second, I see there are two duplicated parameters. I copied from Wikipedia:AWB/Typos#Duplicated words and saw that replacing
\{\{WikiProject United States\|(\S+)(\|DC=\S*\|DC-importance\=\S*)\2\}\}
with{{WikiProject United States|$1$2}}
seems to work.- Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 04:41, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll give that a go. --Kumioko (talk) 11:04, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
I just wanted to say that the first worked like a champ. The second one works for the specific scenario I gave but unfortunately they don't all meet that which is my fault I didn't explain better. I am still workin on it but here is what I have come up with so far (sorry if its not the most efficient way, I'm still learning. :-)):
{{\s*WikiProject[ ]+United[ ]+States(.*?)\|[ ]*DC[ ]*=[ ]*Yes(.*?)\|[ ]*DC[ ]*=[ ]*Yes(.*?)}}
with {{WikiProject United States$1|DC=Yes$2$3}}
with RegexOptions.IgnoreCase.
Unfortunately the importance parameters are a much different story since the importances can assume multiple states (low, mid, high, top, blank, and some other crap like ?, ??, etc). Thats the part I'm still working on. I think I am going to build it in as part of the assessment section so that it will, at the same time, inherit some assessment if needed as well. Thanks again for the help. --Kumioko (talk) 20:32, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
