Conflict of interest
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.
In other words, you absolutely should not be creating/editing articles for artists that you represent. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 17:00, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- thank you for pointing this out. If you read the article you can see that it is very objectivly written. Please let me know, who to ask to maintain the articles for my artists instead. For example I have news which are noteworty, how do I get them in? Thank you for your support and understanding. Best regards, --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 17:05, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- From the latest edit I can see what I did wrong. Thank you for cleaning that up! --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 17:21, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Yeah, most people aren't aware that this sort of thing is expressly discouraged. The most objective way to enact changes is to put your suggestions on the article's talk page and let somebody else make the edit. That, however, can be frustrating in the case of pages that aren't frequented all that much. Another route would be to ask at the conflict of interest noticeboard for somebody to make the edit for you because that is routinely monitored and you're likely to get a faster reaction there. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 17:25, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know :) All I wanted is to have Ayako up on Wikipedia as she needs the exposure. Of course I want to stay within the rules as I don't want to have the article deleted. Do you know when both remarks on top of the article will be deleted? And one final question: What is the best way to get articles translated to the other language wikipedia sites? Thank you. --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 17:34, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'll remove the "unreviewed" tag, but I think the COI one is relevant until others make substantial edits to the page. As for other language wikipedias, that's way out of my comfort zone. I'd suggest asking at the WP:Help desk. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 18:29, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. The COI is interesting to me, as I don't know what substantial edits are. What if the article is already as good as is? Is it ok if I contact someone from the WikiprojektJazz? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Jazz I love comfort zones, so thank you for pointing me in the correct direction for the other language wikipedias. Your help is really appreciated, thank you. --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 18:36, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Happy to help. Sure, go ahead and enlist some additional help - that's one of the reasons that Projects exist. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 18:43, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- I just ran across this template, {{request edit}}, which is specifically for cases like yours. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 08:41, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you! I hope I implemented it correctly. Looks good to me... --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 22:54, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Our copyright policy
[edit]Hi Jan, as someone's pointed out on my talk page, some of the article is directly copied from your website (the biography section on this page). I just wanted to let you know that this needs urgent attention because copyright violations are taken very seriously here. You either need to rewrite the section using different words or follow the instructions at this page which details how, as the copyright owner you are able to donate the text on your website to wikipedia. If neither is done by tomorrow I'll temporarily remove the content until this is resolved. Smartse (talk) 20:34, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Smartse, thanks again and also the other user pointing it out. As sleep is overrated I'll rewrite it right now. --JanMatthiesMM (talk) 22:27, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
