This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Sambas Treasure, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights/highlight_objects/asia/s/silver_buddha_on_a_bronze_lotu.aspx.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Copied from your Commons talk page

[edit]

Many thanks for these great images, and the articles you make using them, but please categorise them, or no-one will ever find them (except me). I suggest just adding one or two categories at the upload point, and further ones when the upload is finished, using the Cat-a-Lot tool (see your Preferences). I would also create a hidden category "Photos by Jononmac46", or sub-cats by date or location, which makes it easy to group them. All British Museum rooms have their own categories, which is an excellent start, and easy with the upload tool. Ideally many photos would go in about 5 categories, but by museum, by period/type of material and type of object will often cover the most important. Also I wish you would crop some a little tighter. This is really easy with the Crop tool. They appear so small on WP it's very important. I'm delighted to see someone else interested in ancient/medieval metalwork, & producing such excellent shots. Edit summaries, multiple consecutive edits

[edit]

Hello, Jononmac46. A couple suggestions for you to consider that will make it easier for us all to work together:

  • Please make a habit of providing an edit summary when you make a change to an article. Doing so makes it easier for your colleagues here to understand the intention of your edit.
  • Plus, it will be easier for you and your co-editors to collaborate on articles if, instead of making multiple consecutive edits in rapid succession on an article, you use the "Show preview" button to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits. This keeps the page history of the article less cluttered.

Thanks in advance for considering these suggestions. Eric talk 01:43, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition about the manuscript is valuable, but would you find a better place that under "composition"? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:00, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Hi, please could you start using edit summaries explaining your edits, as it is difficult to understand the rationale for your changes in some cases. For example, you recently removed a number of entries in List of hoards in Great Britain without any explanation, and it was only by looking at this edit that I was able to understand why you had done so. It would really help other editors, and avoid any misunderstandings, if you did provide edit summaries, especially for major edits. Thanks. BabelStone (talk) 18:16, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I came here to your talk page to say exactly that. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 18:51, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto. Eric talk 03:24, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What is it that you find so difficult or inconvenient about using edit summaries? If you continue to ignore this simple rule, you may find your edits being reversed out because you have made changes without explaining them. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 22:35, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits

[edit]

Hi, please would you stop marking major edits such as this edit as minor edits. You should only mark an edit as minor when correcting a typo or punctuation error, or other such minor, uncontroversial edits. Thanks. BabelStone (talk) 18:22, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited British Museum, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Equestrian and Naos. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Edit summaries

[edit]

Hi there. You seem to do good work, however I've noticed that you never use edit summaries. This makes it very hard for other editors to understand the edits you are making. I notice you've been asked many times over the years to use edit summaries, so I'm asking you again to please use them. It makes understanding the edits and the article history so much easier and would prevent other editors from thinking the edits are disruptive. Thanks. Information icon Hi Jononmac46! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Waynman Dixon that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you.
