Order of Sport

[edit]

If the Order of Sport was established in 2019, then its recipient are only those honoured from 2019 onwards. Please explain why are retroactively adding Order of Sport to every inductee in Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. Flibirigit (talk) 17:23, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As shown by these Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame social media posts, they are retroactivity awarding all of their Hall of Famers pre-2019 with the Order of Sport, referring to their induction year with the wording: "XX was awarded the Order of Sport and inducted into CSHOF in 19XX"

The current article on Order of Sport makes no mention of retroactively giving the award. Is there a better source, such as a newspaper that can be added to Order of Sport? As a reliable source, WP:FACEBOOK is not the best option. When updating articles, it would be more accurate to say that a person was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in year X, and retroactively given the Order of Sport. Here is a mention of retroactive Order of Sport awards on the sportshall .ca website:

Citing Canada's Sports Hall of Fame to talk about itself is not a best practice. Please see WP:PSTS for details. Is there anything that is not a primary source, such as newspapers? Likewise, I appreciate that you have worked on List of members of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, but you are citing all primary sources there too. We should use independent sources, for example see how List of members of the IIHF Hall of Fame using a wide variety of news sites from around the world as citations.
