2016 POTUS
I have a question. If the gallerymode: packed-hover violates any of wikipedia's rules, then why would the option be provided? It works on mobile because the last name only whites out a small sliver of the image, and on desktop, natural tendency to mouse on images give you the name. I'm just wondering how an option which Wikipedia provides (and includes Help:Gallery tag) could be in violation of rules. Spartan7W § 14:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- I never said it violates Wikipedia's rules, because I'm not familiar enough with that rule to know if it does or doesn't. I said that text that says "hover here" violates WP:CLICKHERE. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:38, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with that point. Just wondering. Spartan7W § 16:09, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

RE: "B" to "C" class - What are your issues with article? Hotcop2 (talk) 02:56, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
- A number of unsourced statements, referencing the 1992 WS in the Yankees section (which runs through 1990), one sentence paragraphs poorly organized within sections. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:08, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
- I can work on the sources and the one-sentence paragraphs. The mention of the 1992 World Series in the Yankees section, however, is in response to the Steinbrenner slight and makes perfect sense in that paragraph. Hotcop2 (talk) 13:34, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I am aware. However, players were only credited with 1 appearance per year during that time. See: http://www.sportradar.us/2012/07/09/midsummer-classics-celebrating-mlbs-all-star-game — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.85.78.48 (talk) 22:07, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Scott Alexander
Just thought I'd let you know the baseball player exists at Scott Alexander (baseball). So I don't know if you want to make the page into a disambiguation page or whatever but the player article already exists.--Yankees10 19:46, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, good. It should probably be moved to "Scott Alexander" once it's unprotected. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:46, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- I was thinking a disambiguation because of the screenwriter, but I don't have an opinion either way.--Yankees10 19:57, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't see there was a screenwriter... Where is that page located? Also, another question: you created Alexander's page late last night but I only saw about Alexander's promotion an hour ago at most. Where do you get your promotion intel? It's obviously better than my sources. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:12, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, you mean Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. I guess either a dab page or hat note would work. Not sure which is better. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:17, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah that's the one. It's kind of odd that Scott Alexander wasn't just re-directing there in the first place. I just happened to see it on Twitter last night that he was getting called up. I think it was from his high school or college or something, I don't remember. I figured if it ended up being false I would just speedy delete or re-direct it.--Yankees10 20:24, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- As best I can tell, someone (or someones) kept recreating it as a page for a British millionaire that kept getting deleted, so an admin WP:SALTed it. You always seem to be ahead of the curve on who the new guy is getting promoted. The best I have figured is to follow MLBRosterMoves. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:28, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yup, that's my number one place to check also. There sometimes a little behind, but that's generally where I get my transaction news from.--Yankees10 20:38, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- You do well at keeping ahead. Well, the Alexander baseball page has been moved to the main locale per my request that I didn't change. If you feel a dab page is best, go right ahead. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:53, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter
The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.
In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.
The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:
- Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
- Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
- Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
- West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
- Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
- Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
- Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.
The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.
Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

Hey, I have a question. With the new *beta* editing, how does one get the name of a baseball player highlighted? meaning, what characters are used around the name to get the blue-highlight. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bravesrule384 (talk • contribs) 22:17, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Do you really have to identify Nolan Ryan as "right" in the photo caption of the picture with Andy Pettitte?
Assume that a Wikipedia user who knows nothing about American baseball inadvertently goes to the article on Nolan Ryan. Ryan's photo immediately appears in the info box. There are three additional photos of Nolan Ryan in the article BEFORE the user sees the photo of Ryan with Andy Pettitte. By this time, the user knows what Nolan Ryan looks like. It's silly and unnecessary to have "right" after Ryan's name in the photo caption.

Team names in links
On the one hand, it's good you reverted my edit at David Denson since I forgot to remove the, so it had bad grammar like "He committed to play play college baseball for the Hawaii." However, I don't think WP:EGG applies, as WP:SPECIFICLINK would dictate that readers would expect a link to the Hawaii team, not its location. I had been as guilty as any editor before of leaving Wikipedia titles verbatim in the links, but I think it's OK to pipe in cases like this when the team name is not referenced anywhere else in the prose, making it trivial at best. It'd be a different story with something link New York Yankees in Derek Jeter's article, which makes use go Yankees.—Bagumba (talk) 23:27, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- I noticed the grammar issue only after I reverted it. I don't see how WP:SPECIFICLINK applies; even if piped, it will still go to the team article. I should've linked to WP:EASTEREGG. When I see the word "Hawaii" or "Wisconsin" as the sole text of a wikilink, I personally expect it to be a link to those particular states. That's how my brain seems to work. I think the team name is worth including without piping, and piping can cause problems. One example of this is Kevin Newman (baseball), who was promoted in July or August from the West Virginia Black Bears to the West Virginia Power. So nice of Pittsburgh to name two Class A affiliates "West Virginia". – Muboshgu (talk) 23:37, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- SPECFICLINK: "Always link to the article on the most specific topic appropriate to the context from which you link: it will generally contain more focused information, as well as links to more general topics." The relevant example listed would be "[[Requiem (Mozart)|Requiem]]" vs "[[Requiem]]". In the case of players, they play for the team at the location, not the location itself. Ideally, the team article will have links in its prose that lead to the city article, for those who really need more info on where it is. I don't think EASTEREGG applies, as I don't believe any information is being hidden here by the pipe. Most sources I read outside of WP usually just list the city name, not location + team name, upon first mention. This is even more likely for minor league teams that nobody but a diehard MiLB fan would know (or be interested in).—Bagumba (talk) 00:15, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- More clarification: It's not that SPECIFICLINK wasn't already being followed, it was more of an explanation on why EGG doesnt apply, because one should expect/want the team to be linked, not the location. Regarding the West Virginia case, I agree that would need disambiguation, but I don't think that exception necessitates always needed to include the team name.—Bagumba (talk) 00:26, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Harry Reid
It's a known fact he has mob ties and that its speculated he was assaulted. There is speculation in almost every Wikipedia profile. Your taking this personal. Casino is a non fiction movie and his mob ties are known. Who are you the designated editor? Skinny jones (talk) 22:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- The idea that Harry Reid has mob ties is an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory, which does not belong on Wikipedia. In fact, the idea that Reid is in cahoots with the mob goes directly against all evidence, like the time he turned down a $12,000 bribe and they allegedly tried to kill him with a car bomb. If you find any other such speculation on Wikipedia, please remove it or bring it to the attention of others. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:25, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
Casino
Can I at least write that he had Mob ties in Las Vegas? That is very true and known Skinny jones (talk) 22:22, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- Anything about mob ties in Vegas has to be verifiable with reliable sources. If you meant to put it on Reid's article, it would have to be relevant to his article. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:25, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
he has taken many bribes your biased and I feel sorry for the public that wants to know what our politicians are really doing. Harry Reid has taken so many bribes got comped by Sam Rosenthal a mob front man and lied about it.http://beforeitsnews.com/u-s-politics/2013/01/harry-reid-in-massive-bribe-scandal-2445626.html the source you showed me even said Casino used what he said almost word for word in which he lied. "Reid may not be the most colorful figure in Washington, but his career is far more interesting than that of the average senator. In politics, Nevada is the next best thing to Louisiana. To take just one example, is there another U.S. senator who has been part of the inspiration for a character in a Martin Scorsese film? (A character played by Dick Smothers, no less.) In Casino, Robert DeNiro's character melts down in front of the Nevada Gaming Commission after the commission denies him a license to operate a casino. The scene is loosely based on a December 1978 hearing when Reid was the commission's chairman, and some of the dialogue spoken by Smothers is taken directly from Reid's words during the hearing".Who says what news sources are ok and which are not, you? That's sad because it's truth not hear say. You obviously have a favorable view of him for quoting him turning down bribes. Why can't I quote sources that says he has taken bribes multiple times?http://m.reviewjournal.com/columns-blogs/steve-sebelius/reid-scandal-shows-worst-wounds-are-self-inflicted So can I say anything about the corruption that surrounded his career as a politician? Or is that not ok with you master? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skinny jones (talk • contribs) 19:21, September 11, 2015
- Denigrating somebody the way you have (sarcastically calling me "master") isn't the best way to go about this. Wikipedia runs on consensus and you have to be civil with people who disagree with you. To get consensus, I suggest posting what you want to be done on Talk:Harry Reid to get feedback from the entire community. To the specifics, I have some issue with those sources. The Review Journal piece is an op-ed, and not the best sort of source to use per WP:RS. It certainly doesn't prove that he's ever taken taken a bribe. With his situation with John Swallow, it seems according to the WSJ that it was an attempt to bribe Reid, but not a successful one. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:04, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

hold on
First of all don't ever come to me like this again, second my information on my stuff is very 100% correct so if I feel that I need to correct something because there's an error on it, I'm going to correct it, and third Frank Thomas is my cousin and has told me several times that even though he wasn't on the postseason roster because he contributed to the team that season automatically makes him a World Series Champion learn your facts before your editing privileges be taken away thank you Bigchubz (talk) 22:39, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- WP:BASEBALL consensus is that we only list WS championships for people who are on the postseason roster. Further, don't threaten me again. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:50, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
talkback
That's BS because WP can acknowledge a player for getting a ring but not as a champion, what a load of crock and inaccurate you are. Every person wants the world to know their accomplishments and you are trying to deny people to learn that about them because they weren't on the postseason roster. What about what they did for the team throughout the season to get to the postseason, oh that doesn't matter right. Well then shame on you for being the loser that you are and that wasn't a threat that was a lesson. Thank You Bigchubz (talk) 22:58, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
Averages
FWIW, I was trying to move away from ppg and rpg in Malone's article, and just use "points" and "rebounds". When talking about averages, it just seems redundant to keep mentioning "per game". At any rate, there's too many edit conflicts when saving, so I'll back off on helping with the copyvios. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 20:04, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- I was trying to use ppg and rpg more because that helps to reduce the plagiarism. We can take turns editing it. I think I'm done editing it for now, I need a break. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:06, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- LOL. It's kinda gaming the system if the point is just to fool the tool; materially, "ppg" and "points" convey the same info. I was trying to void getting sucked into the ITN obit blitz, but I've apparently failed. I'll spend a bit more time, since you've graciously offered to take a break, but I doubt I'll be as prolific as you.—Bagumba (talk) 20:10, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah that's true, but some people will simply look at "total match candidates" and the bolded text to see how bad the problem is perceived to be. I figured changing "points" and "rebounds" to "ppg" and "rpg" would make a difference, but maybe it isn't necessary. Hopefully we can get this posted by tonight. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:35, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yikes. That second tool is more powerful, and there is still a ways to go. See Talk:Moses_Malone#Copyright_violation.—Bagumba (talk) 21:42, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Denver Broncos roster navbox
Hi, your edit today to Template:Denver Broncos roster navbox left some code appearing on the public page. It looks like this: <small style="font-size:85%;(IR). Are you able to re-visit this page and have a look? I don't know how to fix it. Thanks. Jeffrey Beall (talk) 00:01, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Black Lives Matter
I apologize for undoing your edit, but I feel that I'm within the "bold" policy. Per your suggestion, I've started a discussion of my edits on BLM's talk page. I've also reinstated my edits because I think they comply with your main objection, which is that they're backed by RS. Let me ask you the same courtesy you asked me -- please don't revert until other voices have weighed in. Scaleshombre (talk) 01:18, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for starting a discussion. But the way it works is we keep it at the most recent consensus version until a discussion decides to make a change. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:35, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Your points on ITN talk
I've closed your ITN talk points on the Healey nomination. It served no purpose. The nom went through the normal process and got posted, there was no reason to continue the discussion. Message received. I bow to your ownership of the page in question. I thought I was adding a neutral tone bit of information. My viewing of that episode happened to lead me to, in a round about way, find the article on Wikipedia. I've never seen a NOMINEE with that political box on the right, or whatever you want to call it. At first glance, it looks like she was an elected representative. Only people who win the primary election have that, never seen it otherwise. Just found it misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.224.154.125 (talk) 23:27, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- Infoboxes are helpful for summarizing key points for a subject. Plenty of nominees have them. See Robert Sarvis, Randy Altschuler, Danny Tarkanian, E. W. Jackson for just a few examples. Everyone should have one. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes for more information. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:32, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
No don't get me wrong, I'm just fine with personal infoboxes. I'm talking about how she also has a box for "democrat nominee" on top of that. I haven't seen that with anyone else, including the people you linked to with the exception of Robert Sarvis. Those are the only two. Again, that's only ever reserved for people who are elected in the general election. Maybe you got confused because I also deleted her personal infobox in addition to her political nominee box, I shouldn't have done that.68.224.154.125 (talk) 08:50, 22 October 2015 (UTC)68.224.154.125 (talk) 08:53, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Look up the dictionary definition of the word "effect," and compare the other usage of the word in the U.S. Constitution. What is so difficult about this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by VEChicago (talk • contribs) 19:37, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- We don't engage in original research and need reliable sources for all content. You're providing your own synthesis for possible point of view-pushing. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:40, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
DOMA entry
To camouflage the sort of thuggery I have run up against by suggesting I am "pushing a point of view" is indicative that you yourself(-ves) are doing that very thing, by peremptorily excising my commentary without consultation or discussion. I only received automated notice after the deed was done.
This is an issue that has not been litigated; ergo, it is not possible to cite an external source. But one is not necessary in this case. Former Congressman Barr misunderstood the use of the noun "effect" in Article IV. We don't need a court decision to explain that any more clearly. This contention is proved by consulting any dictionary as well as the Constitution itself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VEChicago (talk • contribs) 19:52, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- If you're contending that Barr misinterpreted the word "effect", surely you can find a source that backs up your claim. Otherwise, we have only your word that this is the "correct" interpretation of the Constitution, something which lawyers can determine should be interpreted in numerous ways on numerous issues. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:56, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
That is an utterly risible statement in light of the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling from this past April, which included the directive that all U.S. states must henceforth recognize the marriages of same-sex persons equally across all states. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VEChicago (talk • contribs) 16:00, October 30, 2015
- Obviously you're new here and not up on how all of this works. For instance, we try to stay civil with each other; saying that my comment is "utterly risible" is not a good way to work together.

– Muboshgu (talk) 20:11, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
I would submit that being thusly thin-skinned is at the root of the problem. The statement was indeed risible, as it suggests you completely neglected to factor in the relevant Supreme Court case. While the Court did not expressly address Barr's use (or misuse) of the word "effect," the decision answers the question for us with its directive, which cites the "Full Faith and Credit" clause as its basis. The idea of a different interpretation of "effect" was hatched by Barr himself and was thereby proven baseless. ** VEChicago (talk) 20:23, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- If you think the people who edit Wikipedia are constitutional scholars, I'm sorry to disappoint you. But again, we need verification for anything that goes on Wikipedia. You'd get further if you sought some, rather than trying to take shots at someone you don't know. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:30, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
And the thinly-veiled accusation with which you began this exchange, that I was "pushing" a point of view (and by extension, therefore, submitting suspect material) was certainly not a taking a "shot," was it. ** VEChicago (talk) 20:36, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- I said "possibly", because I still don't know if you are or not. Provide some sources for this interpretation. Noted constitutional scholars will surely have them out there which can verify what you're saying, and in which case it can stay up. Or if it's from Obergefell, clarify where in the decision it says this. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:42, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
Oh, good grief.... I just stated it did not come directly from Obergefell minutes ago in a prior paragraph, but it was dealt with indirectly. Barr was not a party to the suit, and there would have been no need for the Court to have ruled on his contention directly. Furthermore, Barr's idea was so off-base and bespoke such an amateurish misunderstanding of Article IV that it might even have been viewed as an affront to the Court for any of the parties to the suit to have brought it up. If you want to find the source of "pushing a point of view" in this issue, I would suggest you look to those who cling, more than a decade later, to this fanciful meme hatched by Barr. It was and is an attempt to cast aspersions on the Supreme Court's reasoning and authority. ** VEChicago (talk) 21:04, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Again, it's on you to provide sources for changes you want to make. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:43, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
