Nissan GT-R
[edit]Actually, why did you add it in the first place? Your picture is of a GT3 specification Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3. The article is about the LMP1 Hybrid specification Nissan GT-R LM Nismo. They are two completely different types of car. I assume you misunderstood the difference. The359 (Talk) 22:00, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/File:Orazio Gentileschi - Il suonatore di liuto (National Gallery of Art).jpg
[edit]I see you have supported this file for Featured Picture status.
The educational value (EV) of this file seems to be predicated on the painting being a portrait of Francesca Caccini. The nominator (Hafspajen) edited to this effect in several places on Wikipedia and on Commons, either without providing a source or citing the National Gallery of Art in Washington, which in fact makes no mention of Caccini.
The situation is that not only is Caccini not attributed anywhere as the sitter in this painting, the suggestion has never arisen that she did. For a start she was rather long in the tooth when this painting was made, certainly no longer a young lady. And of course given her status, and that of Orazio's, it would be well documented that she was the sitter if indeed she had been the sitter. Hafspajen's error appears to arise from reproductions of this painting on CDs of Caccini's music, which is still performed.
I've pointed this out on the nomination (you must have seen it when you supported) and asked Hafspajen to explain the edit. To date he hasn't. For my trouble (and I have gone to considerable trouble editing at Francesca Caccini and The Lute Player (Orazio Gentileschi), a very poor article start indeed, where he makes this claim) my IP was blocked by Crisco 1492 and I was "joke" threatened (ha ha) by a user Belle.
Is this not a matter of concern to you? Don't you think at least the nomination should be edited? 138.199.77.183 (talk) 12:40, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Yann - We were in touch a few days go.
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 09:45, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Yann - Merci beaucoup.

Improper deletion tagging
[edit]You tagged Aleksandar Ivanović/ for speedy deletion with the reason "duplicate content in a foreign language, wrong name". But there is no duplicate content at the Bosnian Wikipedia, and I'm not even sure what the "wrong name" reason is supposed to mean. The criteria for speedy deletion are rather narrowly defined. If an article doesn't neatly fit into one of them, it should not be tagged for speedy deletion. Either improve the article or use a different deletion avenue. In this case, it is an unsourced BLP, and has been tagged for deletion on those grounds. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:29, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
- @WikiDan61: Hi,
- I thought it was a duplicate of Aleksandar Ivanović, and it was not in English when I tagged it (cf. [1]). I see that it is about a different person. Thanks for your message. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:32, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin).

Draft deletion tagging
[edit]Unsubmitted drafts should not be tagged as G2 because they are still under construction. In one instance, the user had simply not closed a commented out section, so the text was there but commented out. For the other unsubs - yes, they may look like test edits, but they might just be placeholders until they can continue editing. Anything vandalous or harmful should be deleted with either G3 or G10, but a draft with little to nothing on it should stay as it is. Remember, don't BITE the newbies. Doomed
[edit]Dear Yann
You rejected my article (Draft:Christoph Voll), and as far as I could figure out, this was due to my sources not being explicit enough. As a university employed researcher, I appreciate the need for explicit referencing, and I hope that the changes I have made will meet the necessary requirements. I would like to add a bunch of photographs of both the artist and his work. Copyright is not a problem, as I have permission to use them for this purpose, but figuring out how, gave me a headache of dimensions, and this brings me to my next point....
I cannot, despite my 15 years of experience as researcher, writer and editor in a digitised world, underline enough how complicated, un-transparent and downright idiotic your system is to an outsider. So far, I have spent more time trying to figure out how your system works than I have researching and writing the article. It seems that way anyway....
My point is, that while I want to finish what I have started and remain keen to get this article on Christoph Voll approved and online - mostly because there really SHOULD be an English language entry on this decisive and important artist in Wikipedia - it will be a cold day in hell before I ever write or submit anything again. I dont mean to be a "hater", and generally consider myself a pretty mellow type, but this system is so confusing, that my blood pressure is through the roof every time I sit down to deal with this issue.
From having a good impression of your concept as a user, as a contributor, I must say that I am now at a stage where, once this is over, I hope never to be confronted with wikipedia again. This is a shame, cause I guess I am the type you would want to solicit contributions from. You may be the wrong person to express this to, but then that is very symptomatic of the wikipedia system.
To me it is amazing that evolution's natural selection has not weeded this system out a long time ago, and I hope that somehow this critique reaches someone who gives a shit.
- Agree totally. I have two Masters degrees and a PhD and this stuff drives me nuts. I am also enduring an 'in text referencing' requirement that is like climbing Everest with your feet tied together and your head inside a plastic bucket. Yann, can you check my changes and let me know whether we are close. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Guy Duczynski (talk • contribs) 11:07, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

Mudar Zahran
[edit]Hi. I have protected Mudar Zahran for 1 week, due to concerns about potential WP:BLP violations. You will be aware that the inclusion of various pieces of potentially libelous (albeit sourced) information has been included and reverted over the past few days, and that concerns have been raised about the reliability of those sources. I am hoping that all involved parties could try to reach agreement on the sources while the page is protected via discussion of the article's talk page. I am posting this message on the talk page of all editors that appear to have been involved in adding or reverting the information. TigerShark (talk) 23:30, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

This user's username is a blatant violation of the username policy, and is going to be blocked for a username violation shortly. Yann,
Thank you for the expeditious review of my first attempt at creating a Wikipedia page. I have a rigorous background in the physical/mathematical sciences, so I certainly understand the importance of establishing credibility though reputable/reliable sources. Before I wrote this piece, I read quite about about notability, and I read a number of pages that had demonstrated significant variance with respect to cited sources. The thing that makes ATMOGRAPH so unique is that it is one of a kind. ATMOGRAPH is the only three-dimensional placefile display system in existence. This is one of the reasons I provided a link to the ATMOGRAPH Youtube Channel, so you guys could see this program in action. I am a professional meteorologist with an advanced degree and I've been forecasting for 20 years -- this is one of the best programs for meteorological data display that I have ever used (and trust me, I've spent a lot of money over the years to build my private consulting practice). One thing that impresses me is the speed at which the raw data download and they are INSTANTLY converted into the 3D data display on the rotating globe (if you want it to rotate of course). So what I'm trying to say is that this is new technology. To me, it feels like a rare situation where notability may have already been established, or may need to be established in reverse order. For example, most of the people using the program aren't talking about it in the print media. I use it everyday to make my forecasts, and I also use it for my formal research. I don't write about it, though. I can certainly provide a list of meteorologists that use the program and often use ATMOGRAPH to create graphics for their blog posts/websites. Generally speaking, operational meteorologists will use it, just as I do, but I've only seen one or two storm chasers who have written full-length reviews.
I would like to hear your thoughts. I am very open-minded and I want to work with you to make this happen for Paul. I have never personally met him, but for a college kid at an Ivy League School, he works more than anyone I know; he's always awake at 4 am... just writing code. He will likely not get very much public/media attention in terms of full website/newspaper write-ups simply because it isn't a topic that will interest the readers.
So, in your expert opinion, how much more would you like to see in terms of citations? Is there a chance that you'd consider the possibility that the novel, revolutionary nature of this program -- that has taken Paul 5 years to build -- and happens to be the only three-dimensional placefile display system in existence, may have already established notability just based on those factors? That's what it feels like to me -- I feel like a revolutionary program built by a genius college kid at an Ivy League School has already established notability by default since nothing else like it exists.

- @Chriswx817: Hi,
- The issue is "is this software notable enough to be in an encyclopedia?" You need to provide some references to a peer review publication about it. Was this software review in a reliable magazine, journal, or website? Regards, Yann (talk) 18:59, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
Yann,
I included a link to a website that did a complete review. The creator of this software did not submit a formal manuscript for publication (i.e., the peer-review process, which I am no stranger to). The storm chaser's review was cited, but I will see if I can find others. Paul just set out and started coding and built a revolutionary piece of software. There isn't going to be a formal "peer-review" paper on something like that. I don't know any programmers who write manuscripts and go through the peer-review process in order to write code. I have published peer-review papers in the formal literature (formal journals -- not websites), and I'm also a peer reviewer for journals of the AMS; however, those are manuscripts with research -- not computer programs. Thank you for the guidance. I think we'll be at a dead end for a while. Chriswx817 (talk) 19:28, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Chriswx817: I mean, was this software mentioned in any computer magazines/List of computer magazines or meteorology magazines? Regards, Yann (talk) 19:41, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
Yann,
Ah, ok. Thank you for clarifying. I haven't seen any mentions in computer magazines. Suppose that a user of the program at NOAA/NWS wrote about it somewhere on the NOAA website and/or a professor of geography/meteorology reviewed it somewhere on the university website. Would those count as authoritative sources? I've seen the first (I just have to find it), and I believe his professor(s) have written about it. Just trying to learn the ropes. You've been a big help so far. I'm still so surprised you were able to review it within the first few hours... I thought it would be a week or more. I like your style :) Chriswx817 (talk) 19:52, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

Yann,
I forgot that a significant part of ATMOGRAPH's underlying numerical methods/techniques are patent-pending. I also found some webpages on the Mount Washington Observatory website from November 2014 that discuss ATMOGRAPH; one of the articles is a brief review and the second is a forecast that utilizes graphics from the software. I went ahead and resubmitted simply because the lengthy patent document provides a lot of substance that seems to fall in line with what you were asking for earlier. Chriswx817 (talk) 21:48, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

[edit]
Hi Yann,
Thanks for taking the time to review my submission.
I've re-edited my submission in order for it to read less like an advertisement. The article was created in order to inform the general public and those outside advertising about their two platforms since they are industry-standard.
Primarily, because of the essential part of the advertising workflow - I think it should be part of the Wiki representation of this industry. Secondarily, anyone wishing to air ads in the UK, Ireland or France need to use and understand these platforms so it's meant to be an informative leader piece for that.
Could you have a look again and please give me any advice if the article, in your estimation, still does not meet Wiki requirements?
Many thanks, Sarah
- @Saband123: Hi Sarah,

Hi Yann, Thanks, I read up quite a bit on sources and everything before attempting this. I've added a few more sources, but understandably being a tech company that provides solutions, the company themselve are not well that well presented in news etc. However, their tech solutions are (ie. this is where most of my sources are) since this is the parts of the company that are public-facing and of most interest. I think these reference are reliable in accordance with those rules set out. Linking an article
[edit]Dear Yann
You recently reviewed and accepted my article on the German artist Christoph Voll (in English).
The article is online, but currently states that it needs a lead section, should be divided into sections by topic, and should be added to categories. I have tried doing all these things, and while they seem to figure in the article, they do not seem to have resolved the issues. Can you tell what is missing?
Also, a shorter article on Voll already existed in the German Wikipedia. I want to link the English article to this, but cannot figure out how that is done.
Finally, the English language article does not figure when one googles Christoph Voll, whereas the German article is the first hit. Any siuggestions as to how this can be remedied?

You've rejected the article because: "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources."
I did try to carefully reference the article to specific pages in the book "Susan Seddon Boulet: A Retrospective." So I want to get a better understanding of why the submission is considered to be not adequately supported.
1) Is "Susan Seddon Boulet: A Retrospective" considered an unreliable source? Why? 2) Is the problem an over-dependence on this one book?
Thanks. I appreciate your time and efforts. Mbabco (talk) 03:07, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

- First you should choose a name, either Susan Eleanor Boulet or Susan Seddon Boulet.
- Second, most references come from a single source. If you can diversify the references, it should be OK.
- Third, please add some wikilinks. Otherwise, the article is quite good. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:29, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

I was told that I need to follow Wikipedia's standards for citations. I felt as though, after researching the topic, I had done just that. I do not understand where I am in error. Please clarify, and I will be happy to make whatever changes are necessary.
- @Terri Sommer: Hi,
- I fixed the technical side, but some information are still missing, hence the error messages. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:14, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
Jack Sparrow
[edit]Why are you adding a random picture of some random dude dressed up as Jack Sparrow on every single page that relates to the Pirates of the Caribbean films? Is that you dressed up? That picture is NOT of Johnny Depp and has no place on any of those wiki pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.65.174.33 (talk) 16:41, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

The article "Richard Huston Williams" was declined for not having reliable sources. Could you give me some specific suggestions for fixing this issue? Many thanks.

File:Chicago Police Patch.png
[edit]Hi Yann. I am wondering if you are the same Yann that was helping me at c:COM:VPC#Baltimore police patches. If so, then perhaps you can provide some clarification at WP:NFCR#File:Chicago Police Patch.png. I'm trying to determine whether the patch in question is OK as {{PD-ineligible}} because if it is then the NFCC concerns about its usage would become a moot point. Any comments you might have, either way, would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:36, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Hi,
- Yes, it's me. I've answered there. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:41, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
- I saw your post. I already thanked you there, but thanks again for helping to resolve this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:15, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi Yann, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 03:24, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
An alternative image was added to the nomination 3 days ago. Could you indicate which version(s) you support? Thanks, Armbrust The Homunculus 12:13, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
