Publisher University of Utah Press ‎ broadly spamming citations to its publications. --CliffC (talk) 21:59, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

University press books are privileged reliable sources by Wikipedia rules ("Base articles on reliable, third-party, published sources .... Where available, academic and peer-reviewed publications are usually the most reliable sources." says WP:SOURCES). They are needed in the many articles that lack such important RS. This does not appear to be "spamming" in my opinion because it fails the key spamming test (the "books added do not add any useful and relevant information." But would you agree that this is spamming behavior? They are not being used as sources, they're simply being added to "further reading" (and such) lists. --CliffC (talk) 16:24, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
I do not consider it spamming behavior. The Further Reading section is important to many Wikipedia users, especially students who are considering whether there is enough material to write a report on the topic. The Further Reading section, in my opinion, is enhanced and improved by the cites of high priority scholarly books that will be useful to readers--indeed essential to students at the university level who NEED to know about the scholarly press titles. The hardmoneydatabase.com website is using Wiki for a back-link on the terms hard money loan and hard money lenders. The backlinks are being posted in the "notations" or "references" sections of the page.
