Inherited from Sanskrit *द्विसर (dvisara, two-stringed), from द्वि (dvi, two) +‎ सर (sara, string, cord) but with the first element following Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀼𑀯𑁂 (duve, two).[1]
