Etymology

Cognate with dialectal Turkish öyken, Ottoman Turkish اويكن from Old Anatolian Turkish ايكن, Turkmen öýken, also Turkish öfke, Uyghur ئۆپكە (öpke), Western Yugur [script needed] (öhkbe), etc.

The author of Kitab-ı Mecmu-ı Tercüman-ı Türki ve Acemi ve Mugali states in his book that Turkmens say öykän instead of öpkä.[1]
