Etymology

Replaced historical ایلوح (iluh) (from Northern Kurdish Êlih, a variation of eylo (eagle) according to Nişanyan), from the name of the local Batman River, which is a preserved and earlier version of Northern Kurdish Mala Badî (House of Badh) (compare the Malabadi Bridge, which is over this river). Ultimately from the name of the Marwanid House of Badh ibn Dustak. Equivalent to baz + mal.
