Arabic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Middle Persian [Term?] (/barnāmag/), from 𐭬𐭣𐭬 (QDM /abar/, “up, on, over”) + [Book Pahlavi needed] (MGLTA) / [Book Pahlavi needed] (nʾmk' /nāmag/, “book, letter”), perhaps after Ancient Greek πρόγραμμα (prógramma, “written public notice, edict”), from προγράφω (prográphō, “to set forth as a public notice”), from προ- (pro-, “before”) + γράφω (gráphō, “to write”). Compare modern Persian برنامه (barnâme).
