- a Turkish tribe in the region of İzmir [subdued under Mehmed II]
- a kind of light infantryman [originally armed police forces of the Seljuk state]
- guerrillero, partisan, Robin Hood, vagabond, highland swashbuckler [after the Celali rebellions]
