[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Middle Bengali সিঢ়ি (śiṛhi), from Old Bengali সিঢি (siḍhi), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀺 (siḍḍhi), *𑀰𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀺 (*śiḍḍhi, “ladder, stair”), from Sanskrit *শ্রীঢি (śrīḍhi, “resting or resorting place, sloped or inclined place”, later, especially, "house; ladder"), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *śriẓḍʰHs, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćriždʰHs, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱli-s-dʰh₁s, a nominal formation from *ḱley- (“to lean, incline, slope”) and *dʰeh₁- (“to do, place”). Cognate to Odia ସିଢ଼ି (siṛhi), Hindi सीढ़ी (sīṛhī), Gujarati સીડી (sīḍī), Punjabi ਸੀੜ੍ਹੀ (sīṛhī), Marathi शिडी (śiḍī).
