Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]Unknown. A connection with ὄλυρα (ólura, “spelt”) and οὐλαί (oulaí, “barley groats”) is unsure. Furnée prefers connecting the noun with ἐλίμαρ (elímar, “grain similar to millet”); however, this is very unclear. Beekes suggest a possible Pre-Greek origin.
