Ancient Greek

Etymology 1

[edit]

Unknown. A connection with ὄλυρα (ólura, spelt) and οὐλαί (oulaí, barley groats) is unsure. Furnée prefers connecting the noun with ἐλίμαρ (elímar, grain similar to millet); however, this is very unclear. Beekes suggest a possible Pre-Greek origin.
