[edit]From ἔμβρῠος (émbruos, “growing”), from ἐν (en, “in”) + βρύω (brúō, “swell, grow”), of unclear origin. Compare Sanskrit भ्रूण (bhrūṇá, “embryo, fetus; young one”).
