[edit]First attested as ecclesie de dalsen in 1241. Etymology unknown. Although later attestations include the element heem (“home, settlement”), this element is absent from the earliest attestations and can thus not be used to construct an etymology. Compare Hessum, Oudleusen and Welsum.
