[edit]From Spanish sauzal (“willow grove”), sauce (“willow”) + -al, from Old Spanish salze, from Latin salix (“willow”) (compare Catalan salze, Italian salice, Romanian salcie), from Proto-Indo-European *sl̥H-ik- (“willow”).
