Welcome Message
[edit]Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Apisite (talk) 10:22, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
User subpages
[edit]Please prefix subpages with a forward slash (/), not a colon. Using a colon ends up causing an error when you go to edit the page, where if you have a page called User:HDKhoa-h071:foo it will say something like "User:HDKhoa-h071:foo is not registered". You can click "Move" in the "More" dropdown at the top right of the page to move it to the proper name using the slash and an admin can delete the redirect it will leave behind. Why did you re-paste the content to the bad page name when you've already relocated it to the properly named page..? Acolyte of Ice (talk) 09:24, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Is this my properly named page?
- Yes, also make sure to sign comments with 4 tildas (~~~~). I think if you do 3, which is what you seem to have done, it won't add a timestamp to your comment. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 09:35, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, sometimes I forget something...HDKhoa-h071 (talk) 09:39, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]Thank you for your informative geographical entries. 173.88.246.138 03:30, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
- You are welcome, but I don't intend to build Wiktionary pages for all of district-level administrative units. HDKhoa-h071 (talk) 03:37, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
“Small” mountains
[edit]In your edit to núi Nhạn you threatened with deletion because it’s a “small” mountain. Note that Wiktionary’s criteria for inclusion say explicitly that all mountains that meet attestation requirements shall be included, regardless of size. If you have a problem with that, you should launch a vote to overturn this policy. MuDavid 栘𩿠 (talk) 07:25, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not threatening anyone, I'm not asking you to delete it, nor am I deleting it. Also does not undo your edits.
- I just assert that it's "small" and "unnecessary". It doesn't matter whether there is a page for it or not.
- I don't want to delete it. You see, I didn't use the template
{{d}}
on that page. YOU MISUNDERSTOOD ME. I RESPECT YOUR OPINION.
HDKhoa-h071 (talk) 12:46, 5 October 2022 (UTC)- No need to shout. Why is the entry “unnecessary”? People may read about it and wonder about the meaning, how it’s called in English (whether it even has a name in English), what other names it has in Vietnamese (those should still be added), its etymology, etc. This is useful information no matter how small the mountain. MuDavid 栘𩿠 (talk) 03:06, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- I didn't shout. I just bolded and CAPITALIZED it to EMPHASIZE THE POINT.
- I mean in Vietnam and in the world there are so many mountains. We could make several billion pages for all of them. So we only need to be interested in a few notable mountains.
- But if you think that a page for that mountain is important, I don't disagree. Since there is no definition for "notable mountains".
- In short, I don't disagree with you, not at all. I respect your opinion.HDKhoa-h071 (talk) 05:37, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- Writing in all caps is shouting. That’s basic netiquette. Don’t do it. Emphasize your points by writing clear sentences instead of bolding.
- Did you follow the link I gave you above? This has got nothing to do with my opinion or “notability” — this is Wiktionary policy.
- There are only a million or so mountains in the world, and most have names in only a handful of languages. No need to exaggerate.
- MuDavid 栘𩿠 (talk) 07:05, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- OK and OK. Well, I'm not defending my point. I don't disagree with you. I respect your opinion.HDKhoa-h071 (talk) 15:12, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
