macrosclereid (plural macrosclereids)

  1. (botany) A columnar sclereid that forms an outer layer in various fruit and seeds.
    • 1967, Robert Harold Miller, Crotalaria Seed Morphology, Anatomy, and Identification, page 41:
      No cuticle is present between the macrosclereids of the funicular remnant (see Funicular Remnant, below) and those of the hilum testa.
