Why is South Dakota adopting this policy?
The University of South Dakota strives to create a safe and enjoyable experience for all patrons. The lack of a comprehensive bag policy left us behind our peers in venue security. Under this plan, the University of South Dakota will make a large stride towards matching up with regional and national competitors.
What happens if I show up with a bag that is not permitted?
Patrons will be encouraged to return the bag to their vehicles to securely store the item while attending the game. Patrons can also transfer their items into a provided zip-lock style bag and dispose of the bag that does not meet the new guidelines.
If I have medical items that must be with me and they do not fit in a clear bag, what do I do?
Exceptions will be made for approved medical needs. Medically required bags will be required to be inspected and tagged by security. Bag inspection can take place at any gate for properly ticketed individuals.
Will diaper bags be allowed in the new policy?
No, unless for a medical necessity- all bags that enter the premises must be clear or of the approved clutch sizing.
I have small children and all my items will not fit in a single clear bag. What should I do?
The policy is enforced at one clear bag per ticketed customer. If you have children with you, they will qualify for a bag as well.
Do I have to put everything I am carrying into a permissible bag?
No. This policy only pertains to the types of bags that are carried into the facility. Therefore, guests can carry in their pockets or hands any permitted items: keys, phone, wallet, feminine products.
Are team‐branded bags available?
Guests who desire to carry South Dakota Coyote branded bags may purchase them at Charlie’s, with locations on Main Street, in the MUC, online at
usdcharliestore.com, or on gameday at the DakotaDome! However, any 12” x 6” x 12” clear bag with no commercial identification or an inexpensive one‐gallon Ziploc‐style bag may be used as well.
How do I get through the security line quicker?
Arrive early. Doors for arena events typically open 60 minutes prior to an event, while the Dome opens at 90 minutes. Lines can get bogged down with last-minute arrivals, so budgeting extra time for security can help ensure patrons have plenty of time to get in and find their seats.
Does this policy apply to me if I’m working at the game, not attending as a fan?
Credentialed individuals will enter the stadium through the designated gate at the southeast entrance. These individuals and any items that they bring into the stadium will be screened per the new bag policy. Once screened, the bags will be temporarily tagged, showing that the bag has been screened and approved.
