Cypriniformes sunt ordo Actinopterygiorum, inter quem insigniter sunt Cyprinidae et Cobitoidea. Cui ordini sunt undecim aut duodecim familiae, plus quam 400 genera, et plus quam 4250 species, nonnullis speciebus novis quotannis descriptis, ac generibus quidem novis saepe agnitis.[1][8] Diversissimi in Asia meridio-orientali adsunt, atque ab Australia et America Australi omnino absunt.[9] Veterrimus piscis inter cypriniformes, 112 annos natus, est Ictiobus cyprinellus Americae Septentrionalis.[10] Artissime cognati vivi sunt Characiformes, Gymnotiformes (Electrophorus electricus et Gymnotiformes), et Siluriformes.[11]
