Sockpuppetry

Dear Alison,

Please withdraw your false accusation where you accuse me of sockpuppetry on the en:CFS talk page, which another user pointed me to (I am not following WP anymore).

I have only one IP, a fixed one, and none of these are it. I also have only one account, which has only been used for normal editing. Guido den Broeder 15:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've clarified my comments there now - Alison 18:46, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hardly. Who is this 'someone else' and why would you believe them? You can easily check this yourself, after all. Guido den Broeder 19:24, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Guido - I've clarified it further here now, and have followed up with ArbCom. Sorry about all the confusion. My fault - Alison 21:14, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
And here in the block log - Alison 05:59, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please help me cancel a REDIRECT

Dear Alison ...

My name is Raymond Aaron. I have a Wikipedia article "Raymond Aaron". I am also on the Board of Directors of The Transformational Leadership Council formed by Jack Canfield. At the moment, "Transformational Leadership Council" is REDIRECTED to "Jack Canfield". I have been authorized by the Board to create an article for Transformational Leadership Council as it has grown in notability now to the point where it merits its own article, not just a REDIRECT. I understand that an Administrator may cancel a REDIRECT. Would you please cancel the REDIRECT for me and notify me (either here or by email raymond@aaron.com) so that I may fulfill my Board duty of creating a separate article for TLC. Thank you.

Hi Raymond. The article Transformational Leadership Council doesn't currently exist right now on Wikipedia. I see you tried to create it before and it was deleted (You just had the word 'Xxx' in it). You can easily just go ahead and create it again if you like, but note that it needs to have relevant, notable content for it to survive. That's what happened your previous revision.
I suggest you go ahead and create the article in your own userspace - at User:Raymondaaron/Transformational Leadership Council, for example. Then when it's ready and you're happy with it, it's an easy matter to move it into place in the main Wiki space. Just let me know when it's done and I can help you with that. Best of luck with the article! - Alison 20:24, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

PLEASE HELP ME. Every time I enter "Transformational Leadership Council" into the search function to create a new article, I get REDIRECTED to Jack Canfield. There must be an article which is simply a REDIRECT. Can you please cancel the REDIRECT? 66.11.71.153 15:10, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Raymond AaronReply

Clarifying the history of en:Project:Child protection

Hi Alison, In order to better document policy history at the new essay "Wikipedia's child protection policy", I am researching the background of your two edits in April 2013 making (what I regard as) a significant change to the policy. You mentioned an AN/I thread in one of your edit comments. Searching through your contributions from around that time, I wasn't able to find that thread; nor was it mentioned on your talk page; nor do I see relevant discussion at en:Wikipedia talk:Child protection/Archive 8; nor do I see anything that seems pertinent in the ANI archives from around that time (en:Project:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive791, en:Project:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive792, en:Project:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive793). Can you tell me what the thread was? I wouldn't want to see it remain a mystery that will puzzle Wikipediographers (Wikipediologists?) for millennia to come. Thanks, Leucosticte (talk) 21:06, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Leucosticte: I can't find the thread, but if I remember correctly, it had something to do with Meco's ban. Here's some background information for your research. An ANI thread is mentioned in that blog entry's comments section. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 23:51, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
en:Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive791#Unblock_the_blocked_user is probably the thread. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 00:09, 27 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Translate some names for hundreds software projects including MediaWiki

Hello, I'm writing you because you subscribed to a Language support team. As you know, Wikimedia projects exist in almost 300 languages; supporting them all is a big effort so we partner with other organisations. One small but visible thing we miss is that many interwiki links in sidebar (among others) don't offer a translation of the language name when hovered. We're now able to translate 100 more language names in your language.

If you're interested, I can create you an account to submit translations on the CLDR web tool (within June 14): please send an email to ask one and I'll follow up with instructions. On CLDR you can translate and tweak many other things, if you desire; your work will impact hundreds of software projects. Thanks, Nemo 17:58, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Superprotect status

Dear Alison, since you are an administrator on a wiki from which no user participated in this discussion, I'd like to make sure you are aware of some recent events which may alter what the Wikimedia Foundation lets you do on your wiki: Superprotect.

Peteforsyth 09:04, 12 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that OTRS volunteers sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have been identified as an OTRS volunteer and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access. OTRS volunteers have a specific agreement available, if you have recently signed the general confidentiality agreement for another role (such as CheckUser or Oversight), you do not need to sign the general agreement again, but you will still need to sign the OTRS agreement.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum(_AT_)wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain your OTRS access. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

User Description Meta Page

Hello Allison,

Although I am not new to Wikipedia, I have recently become more active within the Wikipedia Meta community. I am writing you, as I just wrote about myself in the Wikipedia User Meta page, and received a message that the information I had written was considered SPAM, and to contact an Admin if I felt the message was received in error. Perhaps you could assist, since I couldn't find Contact Info for Admins in general. The information I wrote under User Page Mark Halsey, I thought was advisable, however perhaps I just don't understand well the process, so I am hoping for somebody Senior, with much more knowledge to assist me with this matter, thanks.

Regards,

Quick translation request

Hello!

I was browsing around the babel of language speakers where I found you speak Irish. I am wondering how to type "village in China" and "village in Indonesia" in Irish. I plan on using it for Wikidata.

Thank you in advance. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 23:34, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Much thanks. I presume Manx is different? (sorry but I had saw you are an admin gv) --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 01:26, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Manx is very different!! This is no means correct but to hazard a guess, it'll be something like "Balley beg sy Çheen/Sheen" and "Balley beg sy Indonees". I'm not fluent in this language, though - Alison 03:08, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Aguisíní / appendices on ga.wikitionary.org

Hi Alison, It seems to have been quiet on ga.wikitionary.org lately, but I see that a lot of work has been done on templates and other policies.

I've been creating appendices on the EN site, and have started translating them for GA. My user page(s) has all the links, including back and forth between EN and GA sites.

Are you the best person to ask to help review things, for example, the appendix/category structure?.. and request updates/fixes to templates?

thanks

BMJ account redistribution (The Wikipedia Library)

Hi - according to our records you received a free account for BMJ through The Wikipedia Library. Because we’ve used up all of our allocated accounts, and it’s been some time since they were distributed, we want to redistribute any accounts that aren’t being used to users on our waitlist.

If you’re still using, or plan to use, your BMJ access, no problem! Simply head over to the Library Card platform, log in, and request a renewal of your account. You should be able to do this from your user page, or the BMJ signup page. If you can’t find the renewal button, or have any other issues or questions about this, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. We’ll begin redistributing inactive accounts in a few weeks; if you request renewal after then we should still be able to reactivate your account if we have spots remaining. Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Naming contest support

Hi. Thank you for participating with your edit at one entry. However, we are using a different system for this vote. Please could you rank all of the proposals, either using the blue-button (gadget) at /Names page or manually at /Votes page? Sorry for the confusion, and Thank you! Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 20:11, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wiki of Functions followup

Hi there, I'm a researcher for the Wikilambda project. Last month we held a naming contest and I'm following up with those who voted to see if you might be willing to provide some feedback to help guide the project.

This would be a 45 minute conversation about your past experience with other Wikimedia projects and thoughts about the future of this new initiative. I'm hoping to gather a wide range of perspectives so I'd be interested in your opinion regardless of whether you plan to have further involvement.

As a way of saying thanks, the research team is offering a $35 gift card (in your local currency) for participation. We could chat by phone or through a website for audio conferencing.

If you're interested just pick a time slot from this calendar link:
https://calendly.com/wikilambda/voter

Hope to hear from you soon!

Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference

Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.

The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.

If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.

Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.

More information, and registration details, may be found on Meta at QW2023
